hilander 0 Posted August 26, 2006 Outstanding photo! And the sepia give it a timeless quality. Just curious, would you classify this as a documentry shot or a portrait? (I'm lookink at this from the Critique Forum and have no idea which category you placed it in.) Link to comment
sawicki 0 Posted August 26, 2006 Good photo. It just look amazing how do they do that. I like the choice of tones, and very calm face expression and this tentative smile. Really nice moment caught. Link to comment
davidorea 1 Posted August 26, 2006 Superb portrait, Alec. Her long neck is amazing. Excellent expression, tones and DOF. A gem! Best regards Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted August 26, 2006 Mixed feelings. To them its beauty, to me I think it's tortured beauty but it's part of their culture. Well caught her serene smile & presented in the subdue tones. Link to comment
j_m_lee_photography 0 Posted August 26, 2006 Brass rings around their necks! This distorts the growth of their collarbones and makes them look as if they have a long neck - which is not true scientifically. These rows of brass rings do not actually stretch their necks but in fact squash the vertebrae and collar bones. So sad... Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted August 26, 2006 Thanks guys. Spencer, Cherlyn your're both right it looks torturous but the tradition is dying. The young ones are left to decide for themselves if they want to wear it. There are so many other tribes in this world which practice similar self 'enhancement'. Even body piercing is common in urban society. That's perhaps what we get from a democratic and free society - not to mention only in the undeveloped third world. Link to comment
