The light is fabulous I think--the shadow around the left side of face (left on the image) I think is too great--it is moving toward the right eye-----ML

Maybe I should get one of these, then I would have a client that wouldn't complain about her portrait. :|

The best model I've ever had (not that I've had many...er...ANY!!). She will hold the same position as long as I need her to. For someone just getting into studio lighting (me), this is a really good way to learn. She was only $105 + $50 shipping. She's 5'8" tall, too, so like a "real" person.

Funny I've been thinking of playing with selective color, Lou Ann. I'm taking jewelry shots this weekend and was thinking of having the jewelry in color and her in b&w. May have to keep the red lips, though - that looks kind of cool!

Lou Ann's lipstick is great! What shade, Lou Ann? :P

I also love the idea of having the jewelry in color and leaving the mannequin in B&W. Can't wait to see the results.

Actually, the funny thing is that I'm NOT good with playing with colors. And I didn't use selective color here ... I was just messing with it and clicked the wand tool on the mouth and then went to the color balance and just moved the midlevels slider all the way to Red. Voila! I was startled at how simple it was. I REALLY need to learn to do more with PS!!

I like the smooth doll-like 'skin' and the snooty human look. Great contrast. Lighting looks nice with a very good tonal range from the black background to the bright face tone.

No hair today...I have to keep using the scarf for my jewelry shots. Oh well..thanks for having fun with this, everyone.

Thanks, guys! Thomas, feel free to criticize anything that doesn't look right - I'm just learning and you are master of studio lighting, imo! :)

I was going to ask if you used a "soft" filter, but I guess you didn't because the scarf is sharp. Must be 'cuz the lighting is so even and subdued. This one came out very nice I think.

P.S. Love the title - sung to "Some day my prince will come......."

Looks nearly alive, nice use of light, so I see that you master the studio lights. Good idea. Nice execution, funny and nice title.

Thanks, Pnina - her hair came in today, but my camera has been shipped off to be cleaned. She looks gorgeous with hair! :)
