Bird photography is not my forte, so I feel lucky to get a good shot

now and then when a really spectacular bird comes along like this.

Whoaaa - sure better than anything I ever got Steve - very interesting pose you nailed. Shutter speed and the circumstances involved ?

Hey Ken. Thanks for stopping by. this guy was causing ruckus with the neighborhood birdies. My neighbor spotted him first in a tree, then he flew ever to her clothes line pole and sat there for a while. I grabbed the 28-300 lens and got as close as I could. I did a number of shots as he sat there and sized us up. He can turn his head 180 degrees to look backwards, like an owl! Anyway, I waited until he decided to leave, then snapped at that moment (1/320, f 7.1).

Luck is good! Crop out the clothes line. I offer my tweaked version (OK, maybe a bit over the top) for your consideration. I simply mean to show that this one has real possibilities. Nice shot in any case. Best, LM.

Beautiful capture, it's got a lot of visual interest both from the in-the-air action and the visually appealing background.
