antonio.giacomo 0 Posted August 16, 2006 This was a challenge. The incident light inside the building varied by 12 stops - almost too much for the human eye. The Ektachrome has done a reasonable job, but even the transparency has too much dynamic range for any scanner, and there is much more highlight detail in the transparency. I spent a lot of time setting the camera up, but looking at it, I was convinced that it was not straight. I checked everything again, and the spirit level said that the camera was dead on. In truth, it is the building that is not straight. You can see a distinct bend in the Nave. I should add that, apart from very minor colour correction (the film had gone slightly pink due to reciprocity failure), the image is totally unmanipulated. Link to comment

antonio.giacomo 0 Posted August 17, 2006 Thank you very much for your comments. It took me rather a long time to capture that image. In all my previous attempts, something was wrong. I am not very happy with the anonymous raters though. Were it a revealing full figure shot of a pretty young girl, they would probably give the shot a very high rating, even though it was a very bad photograph. In my opinion, anonymous raters should be banned. We want to see their photographs, so that we know what their standard of photography is like, and hence their ability to rate. Shold we start a discussion thread? Link to comment
tmjacobs 0 Posted May 8, 2007 I have to admit I found the story with this photo more interesting than the photo itself: I can't say I see the detail a 5x4 photo should have - only giving a glimpse of the beauty of the tracery. You might have had more succes on a 'darker' day because exposure is indeed a problem. If you say there is more highlight detail you might consider scanning the slide with different exposures and combining these - either with HDR software or manually. Link to comment
