Planting Rice

Enroute to Halong Bay, there are plentiful of padi fields & rice planting as Vietnam is the 2nd largest rice exporter after Thailand. I shout "Stop", the van stop a while along the highway & we quickly snap a few shots. This is one of them.

Reminds me of a childhood song:

Planting rice is never fun

Work from Morn till set of sun

Cannot stand & cannot sit

Cannot rest a little bit

I always like this kind of shots, but I think this is a specially good one. The diagonal lines, the subject's placement and the light balance, all contribute to a pleasing image. Maybe the only thing I don't quite enjoy is the ridge at the bottom, it's easy to crop out. I understand it grounds the shot a bit but it also conflicts with the diagonal flow in the rest of the picture.

This a nice pic, I have posted a similar pic of Rice plantation on my site . Farmers toil hard in the fields and provide food to whole world. I Salute them. LOL

I am so fond of these paddy field images. They feel so zen to me (but I suppose it is tough for people who are working there) I hope you got more of these.

My brothers still do such work in the South. The irony is that I try to workout three days a week and still cannot shed the unwanted pounds but they never "workout" and have six packs. Part of what you see here belongs to them. Yup, very tough job. Nice reminder for me of what once was home. Good stop.
