The theme child labour is well addressed in this photo. Not accusing, just as a fact. The boy does not seem unhappy.

The strengths: The shoe shine boy stands out with his white skin. The blue door, the yellow tin and the blue box give some strong colour accents to the picture. On the other hand: What exactly they are doing is not clearly visible. We can see the typical instruments of shoe makers but they do not stand out among all the other objects in the picture.

I think that it is very clear what they are doing. The subject in the back has a shoe polishing brush. The 3 figures are surrounded by shoe shine polish tins.

The heavy iron piece in the left foreground is where a customer places his foot for a shine...

No need to explain anything else. Most times these workers not only shine shoes, but do other work as it comes in. Its called surviving...

It speaks clearly.
