The bright halo is a problem in PS. Sorry.

prease note: the use of USM with a large ammount of radius will produce this halo. You should try a pixel radius of 0.5 to 1 and about 100%

USM = Unsharp Mask in Photoshop CS2. If you don't have Photoshop CS2, you can use the Sharpen filter, just make sure your radius is 1 pixel or so.
