aepelbacher 0 Posted August 9, 2006 If you look closely, you can see the suspension part of the bridge in the distance. This is the bridge from Fyn (Funen) to Zealand (the main island in Denmark, where Copenhagen is located). It is the second largest suspension bridge in the world. You can read about it here on Wikipedia. I was probably in restricted place to take this shot. LOL!!Another fun sky to photograph that day, too. Thoughts? Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted August 9, 2006 Here's a closer shot of the suspension part in the distance. Standing in the same place. Link to comment

aepelbacher 0 Posted August 9, 2006 Thanks, Torfinn & Birte! Birte, would you mind taking a look at some of the other shots I have from Denmark in this same folder? I'd love to hear your impressions. I LOVE Denmark, and was so happy to have spent a week there last summer. By the way ... do the Danish people complain about the toll on the bridge? I thought it was extremely high ... I think I paid 200 kr. each way across. Link to comment
bentes_world 0 Posted August 9, 2006 Lou Ann ..... you can be sure we complaine. Road toll in Denmark is not the normal but on the newest bridges - this one and the one connecting Denmark and Sweeden we have to pay and the amount you mention is correctly ... 35$. The amount is political stuff and I'm sure if they made the payment smaller many more people would cross the bridge much more often ( if not not the gas price goes goes too much up) and the money coming in would be the same or perhaps even more. Before the bridges were built we had to go with the ferries and they were even more expensive to use than the bridge and together with waiting time and about an hours sailing it was not always pleasent to go with the ferries. I love THE BRIDGE. You have really succeeded in getting Denmark known as The Clouded Country. Just teasing you Lou Ann and the clouds are nice here too. I like it the way it goes from dark on the left side to light on the right side.... and again it's very typical. In your comment you say the bridge goes from Funen (Fyn) to Zealand. I have to correct you: it goes from Zealand to Funen (as I live on Zealand) and by the way: Where were you placed when you took the photos? It's mostly the one zoomed in I'm thinking of. I have seen a lot of pictures of this bridge but not one like the one zoomed in. The bridge is crossing a small island with a lighthouse and it's not alowed to drive off there and stop on the island. Did you visit that island, Lou Ann? Funny storry from last year: You can't drive on bycicle on the bridge but last year a tourist from East Europe was touring round in Europe on bycicle and he went out on the bridge.. on his bycicle. He didn't know he was not alowed. The police picked him up and took him to Zealand ... and he didn't have to pay. The bridge is the biggest 'building' made in Debmark ever and now there are plans about a new bridge connecting Zealand and Germany. Wonder when that will be. The big Belt Bridge was planned first time about 100 years ago. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted August 9, 2006 Hi Bente - no, I didn't go on the island ... I thought about it, but didn't do it, and then you later told me that it would have been illegal. When I took these two photos I was standing in the same spot. There is a little pull out on the Fyn side of the bridge, if I remember correctly, it's before the toll booths, but I'm not sure. Anyway, it's just before the bridge ... and when you look off toward the bridge from the parking area, you see a fence ... and the fence happened to be open (I think it wasn't supposed to be) and I saw a man walking his dog, so I figured that I could take my camera. I walked all the way to this point (about as far as I could go), took three pictures, and ran back to my car before I would be noticed by someone who might decide to tell me forcefully that I was in a place I shouldn't be. :-) Link to comment
sondra kick 0 Posted August 9, 2006 The chances we take to get a photo. I have been yelled at several times and once held up by the police at a tunnel until I checked out on their computers. Guess it adds spice to our lives. I like this image, great sky and the rocks in the fg. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted August 10, 2006 Nice image Lou Ann, rich sky, nice dof of the bridge till the vanishing point. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted August 13, 2006 Very nice, Lou Ann. The sky definitely makes it work, as it gives a nice contrast to the darker tones of the rocks and water. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted August 15, 2006 Nice shot though being a bridge fanatic I prefer the closer shot showing the suspension spans. I haven't been taken to task for photgraphing bridges but I got warned off in an art gallery recently! Link to comment
