mauricio alcaraz carbia 0 Posted August 29, 2006 This is an outstanding portrait. Yet I think it needs a little bit of space around, so it can breathe (just a little bit) more. Or maybe, crop it in a square format, so we can focus on their eyes. The lightning is perfect. Link to comment
mauricio alcaraz carbia 0 Posted August 29, 2006 Perhaps, something like this. Hope you do not mind...just an idea. Link to comment
claire 0 Posted August 29, 2006 Thank you very much for your input. I really appreciate your comments and advice. I had never ever thought of cropping the image because I liked the detail of her ripped skirt and raindrops that are clearly seen on the little boys leg. However, I do agree the crop works very well and draws the attention instantly to the face. Thank you for taking the time. Regards Claire Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted September 15, 2006 I like the full version better as it portrays a complete picture. A very strong impact photo. I am very captivated by their somewhat 'mature & serious ' expression, their closeness are so touching. Link to comment
claire 0 Posted October 4, 2006 Thank you. That means a lot. I certainly think she is my strongest image and the closest to my heart. Regards, Claire Link to comment

gungajim 75 Posted November 15, 2006 This is as good as it gets in photography SE Asia children. Don't dare crop off the bottom! Her feet are an important element of the image. Their pained expression say it all. Also, thanks for your thoughts on the B&W and color versions of my Kashgar sheep market photos. It was good to get the feedback on the two versions. bertr 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Before commenting on the suggestion put forth by Maurizio (see top) I checked out his portfolio. I now have even less understanding for his recommended crop. He has a well composed portfolio which shows that he has a good eye for photography. Why then would he suggest the crop he did? It makes absolutely no sense on any level: To remove this beautiful, old skirt and the girls feet is completely wrong. And the suggestion that the original composition "draws the eye from the girls face?"...well I cannot understand this reasoning. Please, Claire, do not let such a recommendation spoil what is a most beautiful image...Bert Link to comment
mauricio alcaraz carbia 0 Posted June 12, 2007 Definitely, I can accept that cropping the image was not the best idea. But considering a critique as "completely wrong" or "spoiling", makes the idea of critique useless. I believe that a critique that makes a photographer think and stand by his/her original presentation is more useful than a comment regarding how outstanding an image is (just like this one as I said in my first comment). But terms like "wrong" and "spoil" are subjective, consider that, just like my cropping. Link to comment
alexb_paris 0 Posted June 12, 2007 yeah I agree, the idea of cropping was an idea and it was a good one that I considered myself when I first saw this picture. True this one doesn't really work but you got to give a chance to suggestions, that' s what this web site is for, and not impose your point of view, everyone is allowed to say what he wants as long as it's just suggesting! Actually talking about cropping this photoI think that if you want to crop it you should crop it much more and not half way.. maybe above the arms rather than cutting the legs :) Link to comment
