mbrown 1 Posted December 16, 2001 I have converted this shot from colour to sepia in Photoshop. I have left the colour version in the folder. Which do you think looks better? Link to comment
tom_menegatos 0 Posted December 17, 2001 I'm going to say this one looks better but that just might be because I don't think the colors look right on the other one. I just looked through your whole folder and all the shots except for one or too don't look like shots I would expect from portra. Are you scanning the neg or the prints? What type of paper were they printed on? The skin tones don't look as nice as I would have expected under flash on portra. Link to comment
mbrown 1 Posted December 17, 2001 Hey Tom, thanks for the comments. The shots from Bali were unfortunately scanned from my flatbed as I didn't have access to the negs at the time. These are the results that you get from the Fuji Frontier digital lab, I believe they are more colour saturated then normal printing. I am now looking around for a new lab which prints traditionally as the more I look at the results of the frontier system, the less happy I am. Though the prints don't look quite as bad as the scans. kelly_perl 0 Posted December 17, 2001 Michael--I like the sepia better. However, I think you also have to darken a this a bit, (maybe just the highlights) for that old timey sepia mood. Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted December 17, 2001 I like the sepia better--the colors just don't seem right and I favor black and white in general. Also, this all doesn't seem in focus: flowers in the foreground seem a little blurry. I'd like them to be in focus. They are in too close of proximity to the couple to be blurry. Still, overall, nice shot. I'm sure they'll like it! Link to comment
paulfisher 0 Posted December 17, 2001 I think I prefer monochrome, but black & white rather than sepia. I downloaded a copy, changed to grey scale and adjusted curves just a little - I think it looks best that way. I also agree with the comment about the flowers. They don't need to be in sharp focus, but a bit sharper than they are here would be better. Link to comment
mbrown 1 Posted December 17, 2001 Could you post the version that you changed so that I can have a look at it please. I did change it to B&W but I couldn't get it to look right. Link to comment
paulfisher 0 Posted December 17, 2001 Here it is...Depending on your preference you can get a wide range of effects by adjusting the "curves". I tried a high key and low key approach, but I think I like this one, with just a bit of increased contrast. Link to comment
