mark_tso 0 Posted August 4, 2006 Hello! This is, of course, not a concert photo. This is a sample for the new release of this band... It could be helpfull to hear your opnion about this image particulary and the style generally... Thank You in advance. Link to comment
billysyk 0 Posted August 4, 2006 I will say my personal opinion and I hope I will be constructive Technically ????Colours : Perfect!Lighting : Perfect !Frame : Perfect! Background : Perfect! Why this loses originality to me although its a PERFECT shot ????The musician is posed like he is in concert, but he isnt (as you say) If the feeling was to be "in concert" but not in one he should have been with concert lighting, and different shot angle. Rarerly you canphotograph in death metal concerts the front row musicians because ofthe beating up below and the chaos of the spectators. Most of thetimes in the background you see almost nothing or the freaked drummerAssuming you cought that in telephoto 300MM the only change you should do with this, is a) darken the background b) colour-light the musician with Photoshop colour balance (yellow - purple) and add smoke on the level of his feet. Add something unsusual in an unusual spot to addgenuinity like a bottle (thrown to him ?) on the air... and you have the result. You already have the dinner you just spice it up a little. If the feeling was NOT to be in concert hmmm then background perfectas said before but I would deffinitely close his mouth with something,or ADD something next to him like a GIGANTIC bass colone that is motionblurred a little bit making the feel that there is something adding more to his voice and he just screams because noone can listen him... As said again I really want to make a creative critique. I hope I helped a little bit. Thank you Link to comment
mark_tso 0 Posted August 4, 2006 Thanks a lot for your participation - one of the most comprehensive and useful comments i ever saw on this site!!! The main issue - extremely interesting for me. As you can understand - this pose was intended. Actually I worked on it a lot, because (as it happens usualy) - the band is cool on stage but very pretty shy at thee photosession. My oroginal idea was - dynamic, live portrait of classic rock musician. But as I started to work, I realize that my goal is kind of impossible to achive (i need to work more on portrait photography). The bassist was ill on the session day and his interaction was very limited - so I told him to play as he would onstage and to scream.... This was the way to get an alive image of him. Actually, personally, I find no discripanse between the portrait and the "concert posing", but (as I told) this point is very interesting..... Link to comment
billysyk 0 Posted August 5, 2006 As I said if it was intentional then excellent work just an amp and fan missing from the set not the main portrait of the musician (to show effect of sound on him). (remember those cartoons where someone is yelling on the phone and how it is shown ???) Something like that ;-) Link to comment
