Well, Bente taught me to say "rod grod med flode" ... maybe now she can teach me to say "Ydby". I double checked, and that really IS the name of the town where I photographed this church. :-)

Anyway, I cropped out a significant portion of the bottom of the shot, because it was all green grass, and the horizon was exactly at halfway in the frame (why did I do that??) I don't really like cropping my images to other proportions (I try to do everything either 2x3 or square). But this one seems to work. Do you agree?

You really have to look at the "larger" view for this image to truly be effective. Any thoughts are always appreciated!! :-)

Great shot. You have an good eye for churches I think. Great colours, composition, and the background (sky) is good. Congrats!

Pretty! Almost looks like a flattened fisheye shot. I have never seen such cloud formations either. Was this in high elevation, Lou Ann?

Hi Michael! No - Denmark is rather flat. The highest point (according to Wikipedia) is 560 feet (171m). But, as I drove around that day, I was in and out of rain. I wonder if those are the rain clouds coming in off of the sea. I don't remember what direction I was facing here, but Ydby is near the North Sea. Not a coastal town, but not far away, either. Thanks, all, for your comments! :-D

No - I don't think I can teach you how Ydby sounds in danish, but absolutely not as I imagine you would say it. If you pronounce 'y' as it is pronounced in naught'y' and the 'd' is soft you are on your way.( Silly word to use for teaching the 'y'sound I know)

The clouds are typical North Sea clouds and as mentioned before it's the way the sky often looks over Denmark (DK) As you also say this is pretty close to the North Sea and I can tell that no where in DK you have to drive more than 30 miles and you then will be at the sea.

As I often say, we have no rivers deep or mountains high and I often find it very difficult to take a decent landscape photo of the flat land country I have to say you have managed pretty well Lou Ann. Funny I see churches like this every day and don't have the eye to see them as you did.

'Rdgrd med flde' is red sweet stewed fruit with cream and almost impossible to pronounce for foreigners and sounds funny when they do so it's a test we give to all not danish people and then we can have a laugh. We are so kind ... don't you think so )-; Lou Ann was no exception and she did pretty good. The pronounce I mean.

I'll put a map of DK here so you can see where Ydby Church is situated.

You have done another pretty good DK photo again.

I really like this last set of three images, Lou Ann. I think you have improved immensely over the past year or so, especially with your landscapes.

Lou Ann, the low clouds are very interesting, and unusal they make it a

very nice landscape, I like a lot the point of red roof in composition and the vast sky ( it looks like two skies the upper and the lower..;-)).

Thanks everyone! Especially Bente, for the pronunciation guide. You KNOW that I'm practicing ... and for the image attachment with the map. :-)

Kim - that means a lot coming from you!!

I think you've got a wonderful eye for the typical elements of a region. I am following your work from time to time, and its always a great pleasure to see landscapes through your eyes. I've been to Denmark quite frequently when my kids were younger (now they do their own holiday trips...), and I always appreciated the time being there. Despite the rain...

It's a fantastic capture, I like your crop and the bright cloudy danish sky :-)

Regards, Detlev

Very nice image--postcard in the good sense. I love those dry stone walls and the look of the clouds. Excellent job.

Good sky! The fluffly cumulus clouds on the horizon are great and the church is placed well. like the arc of the wall.

Hi Lou,

Been a long time since I've visited.

Glad to see you've been on your travels once again and taken some great images too. One of my favourites in this one. A beautiful scene.

All the best

Daren
