neilpeters 0 Posted August 3, 2006 {scanned, hand-colored B+W print} pencils and oils. leica m3 50mm, tri-x, printed on Ilford MG fiber. The back of a business building where employees hang out, nice quiet spot. Too much color, not enough? No color matches original scene, I just make em up as I go. Link to comment
michelsavage 0 Posted August 3, 2006 It's the colors that does it. A simple shot but effective. i would have straightened the post on the left, however, the angle detracts a bit. Link to comment
tanyatruong 0 Posted August 4, 2006 I wonder how long it takes you to complete this hand-painting photo?. You must be extremely detailed-oriented to do such a fine job. The cool and warm colors stimulate the eyes to forcus on the photo. Makes me want to seat there and enjoy the quietness. Warm regards, Tanya. Link to comment
neilpeters 0 Posted August 4, 2006 Many thanks friends, for your time and words :) To answer your question Tanya, this one was relatively simple, only 3 days. Then another 2 days for it to dry enough to put in the scanner. The wall is all done in one color, and tonal range already in the original B+W print, comes through as different color tones. (making me look talented, lol) On the 2nd and third day, you keep walking by the print sitting on the desk and stop to add little details, like 40 individual bricks on the ground to give it depth. Once the oils have dryed, its done, so there's a time limit. If possible, you try to work on 2 or 3 at the same time. The wall was done first, I slobbered that color all over the table and chairs, then simply "painted" over with a new color. That is the hard part, if it drys on you, start over on a new print. The one of the restaurant was done all dry with pencils, and took a couple weeks to finish since there was no drying period. If I hurry I get sloppy. The amount of time isn't because I'm any type of perfectionist :) The amazing Hispanic culture in the southwest brought many colors to adobe buildings. They range from earthy and deep to bold and bright, but always warm and inviting. All photographers should know "Adobe" is the painted clay finish like the wall in this print. Link to comment
