daily_photograph 0 Posted August 2, 2006 Impressed by your photographical skills and the landscape surrounding you. (Or vice versa :-)) BTW: Did you compare the lens with the 24-70mm, which I still use? Link to comment
manitas 0 Posted August 2, 2006 I would have either included more sky, or more water, depending on the look you are trying to achieve. Link to comment
PeterKrenek 26 Posted August 3, 2006 For me, the almost 50/50 ratio works here because of the cloud and its reflection. Both structures anchor the composition. I like the quiet and calming atmosphere of this one. Best wishes... Peter Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted August 3, 2006 this 50/50 ratio composition works well for me, too. a very beautiful photo, well exposed, and great natural colours. Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted August 4, 2006 Such a serene landscape. Love how the clouds 'dot' the sky & the soft sea. Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted August 4, 2006 What lovely sheep clouds! I like how the clouds and their reflection provide a circular frame that draws my eyes to the distant horizon. Very nice David. Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted August 5, 2006 Minimalist, artful composition. The center horizon is perfect here because of the symmetric form of clouds/ reflection, IMO. Very natural colors and tones. You were well advised not to brighten up the foreground or darken the sky, a frequent issue in this kind of shot. The subdued, nearly obscure clouds reflection and the stuff on the water surface convey enigma, the trade mark of excellent landscapes Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted August 5, 2006 Beautiful sky David, and the feeling of stilness is very strong , Is it a swimmer in the water? if yes it is a surprise....;-))I have a little bit of a problem with half/half composition, But I like the atmospher it conveys. Link to comment
AaronFalkenberg 0 Posted August 5, 2006 I think you achieved exactly the look you were looking for. Don't well all... have to give the photographer the benefit of the doubt? Works for me. Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted August 6, 2006 and it works very well for me too. I wouldn't change a thing in this, an excellent image. Link to comment
david robinson 0 Posted August 6, 2006 Thanks everyone for your comments. Actually, I don't feel under attack here at all -- some have simply expressed their preference for a composition that is less centered. As it is, this centered composition works for me. Indeed, as I see it, it really wouldn't work here any other way. Here the tranquility of the sky and of the bay are given in equal measure. And neither more or less of either would contribute more to this sense of tranquility. An important aspect of this tranquility is the compositional balance and symmetry, and also as Shawn noted its circularity. Daily, I haven't tried the 24-70, but I sure do like the 24-105. I have found myself using it more and more. Pnina, this isn't a swimmer, it just some flotsam. I thank all of you for your thoughtful comments... Link to comment
sef1664877429 0 Posted August 8, 2006 Its all been said... 50/50's the way to go, floatsom's good(but so is the just visible submerged branch BL curving towards it). Link to comment
biswajit 0 Posted August 9, 2006 Wonderful light at the horizon, the softness in the atmosphere is very well captured, very nice scattered clouds over there. Regards Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted August 24, 2006 Superb clouds and reflections with a sense of exhilaration from the clouds being quietened to a murmur at the horizon. Link to comment
