The next batch of images that I'll upload are from Denmark, taken last July (2005). These statues are called "Man Meets the Sea". The seashore is immediately to the right of what is pictured here. I cloned out a couple of people wandering at the base of one of the statues ... but for perspective, the height of a person is about to the ankle of one of the statues. I thought about cropping this in much closer to the statues, but I really like the sky, so I left it all in. Thoughts?

No, I would keep it as it is; with a much closer crop, I fear it would be less perceptible the hugeness of the statues (revealed by the tiny human beings on the background), and the immensity of the sky, so immense to dwarf even such colossal artifacts.

Man Meets the Sea ... I have not seen them myself but their picture are often shown on Danish photo sides ... mostly with blue sky and from an different angle.

Your photo tells me much more of the statues than pictures of them normally do and I like very much the small people staying there to make the perspective stronger. Makes it more symbolic with 'two kind of man's meeting the see. And for the clouds: as you know it's the way the sky looks mostly over Denmark ( ok .. maybe not always. Just had 4 whole weeks with clear blue sky and 30 C to 34 C every day) Love the clouds here.

I think it's a very well done photo better than most I have seen from the place.

Summer greatings from Denmark.

Thank you Lorenza & Bente!!

Bente, I was just thinking this morning that it would be SOOoooo nice to be in Denmark right now ... enjoying the countryside. I miss it ... I'm sure that when I revisit Europe some day it will be Denmark... :-D

Lou Ann, I am glad you did not clone out the all people. One can't really feel the magnitude of the statues, without them.

Perfect sky for this shot, Lou Ann...gives the impression that the figures are descended from heaven. I like the perspective very much!

these statues are very other-worldly. they make me think of easter island or some kind of aliens waiting for their ship. very cool!

How cool, Lou Ann! This has to be one of my favorites of your shots! Almost surreal looking and the sky is so dramatic, it really sets off the statues.

Yes, really nice tonal balance here LouAnn. The distant couple helps to lend perspective to the image. Bravo!

Nice atmosphere and nearly monochromatic at that! Hope you're having fun with Radiant Vista! Now you can check them out as well, it's free.

This is very nice, Lou Ann, but Bente's remark about the usual shot with blue sky reminds me of yet another possibility: gray on gray, that is, with a very dull gray sky as background. The mood would be very different, of course, and possibly even forbidding or depressing, but do try that if you get back over there.

Lou Ann, completely surreal situation of two kinds of human being... the real and the statues under that gray sky.I think that the composition is so good because of that gray , their posture, and the diagonal sky that are bringing tension to the scene and are forming an angle with the statues (also a tension factor). The little blue add to it, even a bit more of it was nice too, but not an issue. Well done!

Great composition. Love the lighting on the statues. The sky is incredible and with the angle and placement of the people gives a sence of scale and movement to the whole scene. Very nicely done! Rgds :)

I agree with Linda. They seems to be from heaven, down from the opening sky. Very good perspective.

Great shot, Lou Ann! I agree with your removing all but a couple of people. Adds a sense of scale without distracting from the main subject. The lighting and clouds are excellent.

I subscribe to six travel magazines and traveled across Denmark (20 years ago). I have never seen a picture or read about this sculpture. It is very impressive and you have captured its brooding essence. Good to meet a fellow travel fanatic!
