palmtree 0 Posted July 25, 2006 A beautiful shot, rich with detail and wonderful, subtle colors. Very nice! Kind regards, MIke Link to comment
steven lundberg 0 Posted July 25, 2006 I love the contrast of the busy forground and the subtle gradient of the plain and understated sky. I much prefer this over the B&W version. Very nice. I've been saving up for your camera for some time. How do you like it? Regards, Steven. Link to comment
corbin 0 Posted July 25, 2006 The light brings out the colors so nicely, this is much nicer than in B&W. Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted July 25, 2006 My vote for the color version. B&W underlines nicely the interesting group of masts connecting sky and sea, but the color is just too attractive to be omitted. I love the somewhat subdued, warm palette here - it could be interesting to see how it comes out if you lift saturation a bit (in LAB mode, curves on a/b channel, to leave contrast untouched) Link to comment
afs760bf 0 Posted July 25, 2006 Excellent shot, Robert. I think it should have gotten better recognition in the ratings. Everything is sharp, but the photo is very colorful and smooth at the same time. Of course, I'm originally from the seacoast, so I love this kind of stuff. Best Regards, Barry Link to comment
lucyhollis 2 Posted July 25, 2006 I prefer this colour version. This time of day makes the colour and whole image warm, calm and positive. After looking at this image, I wonder how an image with the boats in the top third would look? There must be so much detail in the reflections which is lost, and what is there can not be appreciated as half of it is missing. BUt maybe the blank sky is better for making the whole image not overly fiddly and complicated. Link to comment

robertbrown 1 Posted July 28, 2006 Thanks for all of the nice comments. While I like both versions, the color one here seems a little better. Stephen, I love the camera. I shoot a lot of stock and the bigger sensor is a lot less noisy than the 10D and 20D (I own both). I also like to make big prints on my Epson 7600 (up to 24x36"), so the bigger file size is nice, too. If it weren't for those two reasons, I would have been happy with my 20D. Carsten, thanks for the PS tip. I'll give it a try. Lucy, I actually shot this five or six ways, including the way you suggested. However, I liked this one best, though the way you suggested is also nice. It may be just apples and oranges. Barry, thanks for stopping. While I hate the rain where I live, I do love the ocean and river. Link to comment
