I like it ! - the still-lifes you don't enjoy so much (-; ....... Did you shoot a version with more of that wonderful, black reflective vase in it ?

You got it. They are what I do when it's breezy up here (which is almost always) So I shoot here in the west-facing window seat, which you can see in the reflection. Yes, it's there. You just have to squint. Actually, I only just noticed it myself when you mentioned the reflective vase. I did take others but they are now travelling around in cyberspace with the other gzillion shots I flush away - one of the many pleasures of digi-shooting as you now know. Although, being the meticulous shooter that you are, you probably don't need to do that. Well, that was kindofa long-winded response, but like I said, it's often breezy up here. Thanks for stopping by on one of your rare but much appreciated visits.

Hanna, What an elegant image! I love its simplicity and especially the fact is is not in perfect bloom... yes there is beauty in many stages of a flowers life. Very well done my friend.

Hi John, it's good to hear from you. I see you're doing great things with your 17-40L lens. I'm going to have to get serious about learning to shoot landscapes properly with it as I'm not using it much, great lens that it is.

Beautiful lines here. I love the glossy black vase in the corner and that the bloom is barely holding on for a little bit longer.

Leslie, the vase was a find in a secondhand store and has become a favourite for photographing flowers. Because of its narrow neck the tall stems stand up well. I had planned to shoot a fresher tulip but was distracted and when I returned a few days later, this is what I found. Rather vulnerable yet elegant I thought. Thanks for stopping by.

Hanna, I just love this photograph. Composition is excellent as well as the lighting. I love the colors and details. The contrast with the background makes it very pleasant to see. Sharpening is good as well as the depth of field bringing the entire picture in focus and to life.

Congratulations, Rafael

I've been copping a major attitude (as we say) at my camera club becasue nobody wants to shoot anything but flowers . . . but you know what? This one is really nice! As you say, there's elegance, but also vulnerability in the flower and in your composition as well.

Carl, I think subjects choose their photographers. Try as I might to find original subjects to photograph, I always seem to come back to flowers. It must be my Dutch origin. Thanks for the generous comment. It's very much appreciated.

I really like this for many of the reasons already stated. Mostly for what I call it's "grace". It has a nice combination of fluidity and balance. I can't help but wonder what an even longer vertical with more (or all) of the vase would be like. Well done.

Jerry, I have had so many comments on the vase that I'm just going to have to do some more shots with that in them. Watch this space, and thanks for your time.

Hmmm...I suppose a dead flower is meant to be very 'meaningful', but I'm sure I would choose to have a flower in full glory if I had to have a single flower picture! That said, your lighting and composition is perfect.
