One of those very rare moments photographers like me wait years to

see and capture. Sunset, clouds, mist, everything. This was a

beautiful evening along the shores of Burnt Lake, Mount Hood

wilderness, Oregon.

Great shot I love the feeling of catching all the perfect elements. Its best when all these are set right before you and they just screen to be captured. God bless-

Gorgeous light Marc, I also like this shot very much. Howver like with Pastel Plains, I find the reflection lighter than the mountain a bit strange. It is amazing how many landscapes of different subjects you come up with considering your works seem to be confined to Oregon.

It seems like the ND line creates unnatural color condition in the sky, very distinguishable right above the peak of the mountain? Did you ND filter cover the mountain as well?

I think what you're seeing is a color variation typical of reflections when the water is anything but perfectly clear. Reflections often take on the color charateristics of the water. I could match the two if I had wanted I suppose. The reddish hue behind the mountain is simply alpenglow and should not appear unnatual IMO.

Kah Kit, thanks. I've done a poor job noticing that lately. I was trying to bring out the mist with a strong grad. I will likely go back and adjust the tones to make it more accurate.

A wonderful composition....but to the untrained eye the oversaturated reds on the mountain somewhat spoil the photograph - exaggerated colours are not necessarily more beautiful. After a little toning down of the reds this would be fit to grace the Sierra Club calendar!

The balance between the shaded foreground and the brightly lit mounntain is stunningly measured. A feast of exceptional detail to be examined and enjoyed.

Nice light and careful composition as always ...but Marc, do you still need Galen Rowell filters having EOS 5D raws and PS? You really master them but i wonder if you are against digital techniques like multi-exposure or HDR shots...

Kind regards,

Juan

I was standing right next to Marc when he shot this, and let me tell you that he is not exagerating the reds one bit. The glow was quite amazing. You should have seen the treeline on the ridge just outside the right of this image. It was glowing just as red.

Glorious shot Marc!

Thanks Rick. The reworked NPN version I just posted is much better still.

As for GND's - there is absolutely a time and place for both blends and GND's, especially if you're like me and don't like spending unnessesary amounts of time in PS behind your computer.

but this is quite nice. Very impressive work as always Marc. I see your work and I always feel like a lazy bum. Very inspiring and incredibly beautiful.

Well composed with the sharp foreground.  Nice color.  Also like your description which always helps.  Best Regards,
