This is London's City Hall. If you look at the bottom portion of the building, you'll recognize the "ribbon" pattern from my previous upload.

I LOVE this building (I took as many photos of it as I did the London Eye) ... but don't really like ANY of the pics that I took of it. Not even this one. The sky was impossibly washed out from every angle ... and I didn't have a chance to experiment with photographing it at different times of day. So I got what I got. If you want to see good photos of it, there are a few here on photo.net. Colin has several in this folder.

By the way, Colin - will you give us a tiny bit of background on this building, like you did with the Swiss Re building? Thanks!! :-)

As always, comments, thoughts, versions, etc. are always most graciously appreciated!!

i like this Lou Ann. love that you have included the bridge in the background. it has been 20 years since i have been to London. it sure has changed! i'd love to know more about this building too.

I think that I have seen this one so many times I just assumed that I had commented on it.

I can't believe how rounded this building is. If I hadn't talked to you about it I would have sworn that you took this image with a fisheye lens. I think it would be interesting to see this picture from a little farther away and a little more space off to the left of the building. The way it leans and is shaped it appears to be moving toward the left side of the screen!

Lou Ann, when I saw the thumbnail of this one, I thought that surely you had used a fish eye lens. This is a very good shot of an extraordinary piece of architecture.

Nope, no fisheye used here. I will follow this comment with several (!!) farther away shots for perspective. Admittedly, it was the WORST time of day to take photos ... mid-afternoon on a sunny day. Rrrrrrr....

A blatant attempt to copy Colin's wonderfully creative approach to photographing the London City Hall (see link in initial comment above). I figure that if I post this version here, Colin may be tempted to visit and leave us some information about the building. :-)

Lou Ann, Colin is Colin.. not a visitor in London and can find the right time, I mist say that as a visitir for a "moment" your original upload here is well done! and I likr that the lower part has the old London for coparison, also the people around.I think as I said befor that it was nice to show some other angles. Anyway fruitfull visit Lou Ann.

Lou Ann, I like the way the little crowd of people and the bit of tower bridge contrast with City Hall's amazing architecture. You have done a fine job representing the 'in your-face' feel of City Hall. Nice sky too. I find the whole area from Tower Bridge up past City hall and along to the Millennium bridge and Tate Modern is a succession of great photo opportunities.

City Hall is new (2002) and Greater London has never had a mayor before. The current mayor is Ken Livingstone a real populist politician who helped with the 2012 Olympics bid for London.

This style of architecture is called 'blobby architecture' (I kid you not) and is a result of using computers to work out the exact geometry - an otherwise impossible task.

Your other shots of it are very good too - I like the two where City Hall kind of bulges out from behind other more sober square buildings. As for blatant copying - I'm flattered :_)

THANKS for the background, Colin!! I knew you'd come through for us. :-) I really wish that I had taken the time to go out to the City Hall at a magic hour (for me, typically the early morning) for some better light. Maybe on my next visit....
