I guess this was the earlier shot, some minutes before the Morning glow (II). This has the best contrast in the diagonal clouds, kind of light beam in the sky. Well controlled backlight. I think you have just the right amount of contrast in the mountainscape, well controlled exposure. What I like especially in this shot as well as in the later, is the diagonal UL to LR, crossed by the rays of light in the other direction. But if I had to chose I would take the other version, see there

Hello David. Both shots are elegant. Although Carsten is right about the illuminated top of the mountain being a great addition, I prefer this version because of the delicate detail in the sky. Best wishes, Peter

I like this one very much too but feel the (interesting) sky competes against the landscape rather than complements it.

David: These two photographs are a powerful reminder of how the fleeting instances of light can dramatically change an image. In my mind, this shot is all about the sky with the foreground serving more as an anchor. In the other shot, it is about that magic moment when light first kisses the far peak. Two completely different photographs. Both a delight.

I'd try this one darker/more contrasty to make it more completely about the sky, which is just magnificent. In my mind, the detail and dynamic range of the foreground just gets in the way. Sort of like the attached.

Thanks everyone. Even though the other image seemed to resonate stronger with others, this one does have its appeal. And as all of you noted that appeal most lies with the sky. I want to thank you Pat for the work you did on this image and for showing me how best to emphasize the strength of this image. I learned something today. Thanks again, Peter, Carsten, and Colin and Patricia...
