john_pavlakis 0 Posted July 11, 2006 I had several shots from the High Road to Taos somewhat like this. My conclusion with my attempts is the same as with your shot: foreground trees have to be a *very* special thing to frame this kind of beautiful distant landscape (either special arrangement or specical kind of tree). Your shot would have been fantastic had you had a long zoom shot compressing the distant hills without the distracting and ultimately ordinary foreground trees. Sorry if I sound a bit harsh; it brings back bad memories of photos attempted and failed on my part so I don't want to see others repeat my mistake :) Link to comment
dangoldman 0 Posted July 11, 2006 tell me about it! this was the best i could do to get trees out of some part of the frame. I think you're right though, i should have used the tele; however this was taken from the side of a mountain and there's no way i would have carried that lense up there... it was hard enough as it was. thanks for the critique. herb_fernandes 0 Posted July 11, 2006 HI Dan , (John, Good to see your comments here.) I do agree with John on the use of a telephoto especially for misty/hazy shots of distant hills. Maybe as a last resort to save this image i would have cropped into it and use the trees as a frame to lead the eye into the scene. see below crop Best of luck Link to comment
dangoldman 0 Posted July 12, 2006 thanks for that suggestion. my reason for not cropping (if i recal when editing this at 2am) was to make it a wide angle. i think on the return of this trip im taking i may be able to try using a tele though and try again. Link to comment
