teru 0 Posted July 6, 2006 I included the tire in the frame because it made a nice juxtaposition to the beauty of the colorful sunset. I think it creates a nice offset to the photo. Does it work for you? Link to comment
darien_hewett 0 Posted July 6, 2006 Very Nice composition, Very beautiful sunset, the colors are so rich mixed with the earth, aesthectically I think it would be alot better without the tire, BUT I THINK I GET what your shooting for, this photo easily shows the beauty of nature along with the ugliness that uncaring humans contribute. nathan_ross 0 Posted July 6, 2006 Yes, this DEFINITELY works for me. Are they oil rigs in the background too? Landscape and nature shots often present nature as pristine. But it's not. Indeed, it's not even close. Nature is under massive pressures: pollution, loss of habitat and biodiversity, wasteful use of natural resources and the pollution that makes, and the biggest pressure of them all - climate change. "Nature as perfection" photographs - although often beautiful - are quite misleading. This shot, on the other hand, is technically, artistically and factually on the mark. Great shot. PS. I note that a couple of people have rated the shot 3+3. Perhaps people are challenged by the site of the pollution; perhaps it confronts their values; perhaps they don't like the truth created by their behaviour. Link to comment
teru 0 Posted July 7, 2006 Glad to see someone else appreciating the Nature is Soiled idea. Yes, those are oil rigs in the background. I wanted to shoot some tele shots of them but the thick clouds made for a boring background. I plan on going back again on a less cloudy day. Link to comment
