markboyer 0 Posted July 5, 2006 It's a lovely shot, but after all those naked people it's kind of a letdown. Link to comment
jana 1 Posted July 6, 2006 At the end of the world, in the TSOATSOA land. So many of these shots on PN. I tried to show here a new look, a new composition, What do you think? thanks , Jana Link to comment
bob ingelhart 0 Posted July 6, 2006 Very nice shot. I love the composition but don't know why. I looked at your other shots as well. I'm usually not a fan of abstract photos, but your's are quite unique and exceptional. I'll have to think up some clever criticism and post it later. bob Link to comment
markonestudios 4 Posted July 6, 2006 Great capture, Jana! The colours, stark shadows and contrast all attest to the harshness of this environment. The way you've placed the trees in your photo gives the viewer plenty to look at. Some might say that it lacks balance on the right, but I like it just as it is :)Best regards from Kenya,Mark Link to comment
bob dennis 0 Posted July 6, 2006 Hi Jana I like the composition, the dead trees seem to form a line on the left of the photo, curving at the end and the small one on the right is a counterpoint. The lack of vegetation and cloud simplifies the image. theres much to like. Bob Dennis Link to comment
awaraagard 0 Posted July 6, 2006 stunning composition. light, colors & shadows complimenting the composition & in many unknown ways enhancing it. i love the mood. very contemplative. regards! Link to comment

Link to comment
shotokan 0 Posted July 13, 2006 Nice capture, Jana. There are a few reasons why the composition works well for me in this shot. a) simple rule of thirds- the front most tree is at a powerful place in the photo, as is the horizon. b) lines and gradients - the trees form a wavy line from the front to the back left, and then there is an obvious blue gradient from the top/middle left to the top right corner. The shadows cast be the middle tres add to the whole shot as well. Very nicely done, IMHO. Cheers, Mark Link to comment
htc 0 Posted July 23, 2006 I find the composition quite crowded; i think there is a lot more there that what you are showing. The tree in foreground is underexposed, maybe a flash fill in would help here. cheers, calin Link to comment
robidooo 0 Posted July 25, 2006 I like this one a lot Jana. When I first saw it, I immediately thought about a similar shot I saw in August edition of Popular Photography magazine. Some guy took a landscape format of a desert photo and there was one part showing a similar arrangement of trees, like you have here. The suggestion of the people in PP was to crop it the exact way you did. Not that I believe PP to have always the right answer, I thought it was spot on that time. And this is as well applicable to the composition you have chosen here. Apart from the composition, I like a lot the colors you have here. Everything look so lifeless in those colors. And the fact that the sun was low in the sky also help by creating those real long shadows. Overall, a great shot I would be proud to have taken. Link to comment
dominiquedodge 0 Posted July 28, 2006 Overall a very nice shot. I particularly like the way the central tree seems to be swaying away from the others towards the curved hill in background on the right. I think your composition is very good - there's really not much to critique about it. I think it's down to personnal preference at this point. I might have preffered a bit more space at the bottom (but that's not knowing what's there), a bit more space to the right (and less to the left) - but only a tiny bit. And maybe a bit more separation between the branchless tree and the one on the left. But these are tiny details and as I said more a matter of preferrence. Great shadows, great colours and clarity.
