colin carron 58,916 Posted July 2, 2006 When we got to the Jungfraujoch at 11000 ft it was snowing hard and the temperature was -15C. The wind chill made it feel as though my ears were going to get frostbite so after 5 minutes I had to get back inside. Enough time to catch this shot of more hardy folk braving the cold. The camera was tougher than me and kept going without fuss. All comments welcome! Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted July 2, 2006 Simply love it Colin .the semi circle of"fence" and people gradualy changing to shadows ;-)) because of the fog and cold is really original, Brave Colin! (did you get my email? ) Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted July 2, 2006 I like the circle of people and the simplicity of this shot. You can FEEL the cold looking at this. Well done, Colin! Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted July 2, 2006 Si - thanks, I was glad to be there but after 5 minutes I HAD to get back into the warm as I was beginning to lose feeling in my ears! Pnina, glad you like it. I was most concerned that matt had disappeared into the snow storm and I could not see him! I did not fancy having to go looking for him. Fortunately he re-appeared quite quickly. I have just answered your email, sorry about the delay. Mehmet, Thinh, thanks! Kim, thanks. The simplicity is due to nature rather than me! The snow was flying across more or less horizontally and one could not distinguish between land and sky. Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted July 2, 2006 The composition works very well with those stakes and peoples, only objects visible in all this white. I think it worthed to have the ears frozen. No ? Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted July 2, 2006 The highkey tones and the gradually disappearing people, together with the ice on one side of the poles and the convex curve of the fence work together nicely, to give us a visual impression of that situation. I can almost feel the storm and biting frost. And an interesting cold test for me, if Santa Claus brings me a 5D ;-) Link to comment

ljk 0 Posted July 2, 2006 Colin, I agree with all above. It conveys the COLD so well. The gentle arch of disappearing souls is great. Link to comment
sondra kick 0 Posted July 2, 2006 Colin, love this image as the people fade away in the snow. I agree with all the above too. Its 95 Farenheit here today so looks refreshing to me. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted July 3, 2006 It's neat that the fence seems to go off into infinity. At first glance at the thumbnail I thought that it was a snake on the nearest fence post. Yeah. I'm glad I was wrong. :-) And I'm glad that you found Matt! :-) Link to comment
marco_ruggiero 0 Posted July 3, 2006 Beautiful simmetry, which in as much as created by the blizzard you captured perfectly. The vanishing people truly gives us the magnitude not only of the blizzard but the incredible power of Mother Nature. Great capture. My compliments. Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted July 3, 2006 I can imagine how your geel, Colin. I too have experience such coldness before. Nose & neck icy cold, fingers numb, having difficulty to press the camera's shutter with gloves on, yet still hope to snap something good. This is definitely good, how the people & fence disappear in the blizzard. Link to comment

paula grenside 0 Posted July 4, 2006 The inclined pole in front, the disappearing people, the diffused whitness, all contribute to strongly convey the blizzard, the extreme cold. Made me think of Scott and the expedition to the Pole. Excellent shot, Colin, and you were brave. Link to comment
