awaraagard 0 Posted June 28, 2006 inspired by Fariyal Ali Guhar's international award winning film " Tibi Gali " based on her novel " Scent of Wet Earth in August " about Fatima, a mute adolescent [ the wordless one ] dejected by her lovers when she needed them most is forced 2 rot & wither in silence in the company of her aging mother living in ancient crumbling walls of Begum Haveli situated in the Bazar. these creatures search vainly 4 love that can never ever be theirs. this shot signifies mute, dark & sadistic lives of young girls born to act as escorts/ surrogates all their lives. their existance is marred by betrayl & gloom. comments/ critique/ ratings welcome. awaraagard 0 Posted June 29, 2006 thanx v lila, pandey, nisar, j s carmona & sircar ji 4 ur critique & appreciation. the title is an inspired modification of garcia's " hundred years of solitutde ". i was moved by the impact & story it related 2 my pic. i believe in negation of personality in art. i mean as keats said that artist/ poet should forget his personality & become the subject he describes. only then emotional depth can b achieved. i negate myself & try 2 become what i work upon. infatuated/ inspired/ moved/ captivated by my subjects, i feel so free 2 float inside them & with utmost honesty try 2 capture their soul. regards! pranab_rout 0 Posted June 29, 2006 However, I debated which had more impact: your writing, or this photo?? You are so gifted. The winching face, the half-hearted invitation of the hand: they say it all. The two leaning out of the left in search of 'love'. the missing window panes, the tattered clothes on the clothesline reflect their abject plight. This is a great piece of work. Hope you use these in proper forum to help them, if you could. Link to comment
awaraagard 0 Posted July 1, 2006 thanx 4 ur visit parnab, grooves! well, helping them out is a nerve wrecking web of moral & social issues. photographers shoot nudes & they never tell their models 2 stop doing that & earn a modest living where they don't have 2 expose their bodies 4 money. i treat my subjects with utmost dignity & respect. it's never my intention 2 meddle with their lives. its a documentary about what i saw & felt. they r born into a situation with no choice. there r moments when many of them realize their state of existance & through hard personal conflicts avert their doomed destiny. but, its not approperiate 4 any of us 2 interfere into their walled lives & suggest that u should stop doing this & start doing that. how many of us r courageous enough 2 get them out of that bazar & provide them with a better living standard? i do not suggest that it should b left 2 exist, but my point is that a subject is a subject..when we take photographs, all charged up & steaming with accomplishments & share those photos with our friends & relations & receive applause & appreciation, those subjects still face all those harsh realties that become inevitable fate 4 them. as lee frost wrote in an article, " a shoe shine boy in rags may look like a colorful subject 2 u, but he's still a shoe shine boy working hard 2 earn a hard living while u sit back & enjoy the photographs u took of him ". so how many of us can decide that we should pull that shoe shine boy of that poverty line & help him earn a reasonably good living? dignity & respect 4 the subject is important. & privacy of their lives. i do feel sometimes that we photographers trespass certain bounderies with the privilige that our cameras give us, but still those advantages should strictly b limited 2 record decoumentary. best regards! pnital 36 Posted July 1, 2006 Umair, interesting preface, that is helpfull in understanding. but even without it the iamge is "talking" with a gloomy mood. nice composition and tonal range. Link to comment
Karl Schuler 48 Posted July 1, 2006 Cien aos de soledad, hundert Jahre Einsamkeit. First I was not aware why they are there, what they are doing. I was thinking about modelling for a moody shot or photoshopping in honour of an epic book title. With the two women at the right side I found it overloaden. But then, while reading the comments and explanations I understood. Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Victor Hugo, Sting... It goes through history, through continents, through cultures. The more it is hushed up the more miserable silences are there. Rarely a photo has shattered me more than this one. Karl Link to comment
syalphotography 0 Posted July 1, 2006 Umair, you have touched a very sensitive subject! Well done my friend!!6/6 Sorry, systems. Link to comment
awaraagard 0 Posted July 2, 2006 pnina, karl, rakesh i'm overwhelmed. karl, u so right about truth being hushed up, covers of silence being thrown over so much raelity, but somehow, somewhere it keeps revealing itself. sting's album " dreams of blue turtle " & his earlier songs from Police album " synchronicity " had great impact on my mind. i'm so grateful 2 find people who know, feel, realize & r not afraid 2 speak about these things. regards! namurray 0 Posted July 2, 2006 I don't know which is more powerful Umair, your photograph or your piercingly emotive prose. I do know that together they forcefully expose one of life's great injustices; one that cries to the heavens for atonement. You have combined two arts to convey your message here. I can't rate your photo in the usual way because the reaction I have is as much influenced by your words as by the image. What you have presented so brilliantly, trancends ratings and I'll leave it at that. Kind regards, Neil Link to comment
awaraagard 0 Posted July 2, 2006 ur words r no less than a medal! i'm perfectly satisfied 2 have them & many others here. well, ratings only matter 2 b noticed, its the words that matter more. the sentences that say it all which ratings never can say. regards! Link to comment
