kslonaker 0 Posted June 25, 2006 Used layers to create a softness to this. Background is a clay garden monk. The "v" is the statue's collar. Comments? Link to comment
sarah_newton 0 Posted June 25, 2006 I took some pics of the same flower this afternoon. Wish this was one of mine :))) Beautiful. Link to comment
markboyer 0 Posted June 25, 2006 Really impressive when viewed Larger. I would never have guessed the background was anything but a softened natural area. It works beautifully, and the color really complement the glow of the flowers. Very nice. Link to comment

WJT 619 Posted June 26, 2006 Hi Kim. Purple and green comprise my favorite color combo, and these beauties are perfectly purple! They look like a type of Petunia; is that what they are? I like the Photoshop work with the V but I feel that the apex is a little too bright and could be toned down a bit. The overall layout, with the matching colored bevel on the black mat, is well done. Good photograph! Regards. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted June 26, 2006 Walter, this is some type of wildflower - the flowers are quite tiny, with the width of the petal being about the same as a quarter. We recently had about 5 inches of rain, after having NONE for about 9 months, and these popped up all over the place. I did play with the orange part and tried it toned down more, but wasn't as pleased with it. I have printed this out on glossy and semi-gloss paper and also did this as notecards and I'm very happy with the print quality. I'll send you a notecard, if you like. It's always interesting to see something printed from what you view on PN. Thanks for commenting, everyone. Link to comment
garydad 0 Posted June 26, 2006 Hi Kim. This is such a beautiful shot. I wish I could be helpful by pointing out some flaw but I see this image as just about flawless. Your composition is perfect and the lighting is even better. The image is almost 3D. How did you achieve the lighting on the pedals that makes them seem to glow? Congratulations on a beautiful image. kslonaker 0 Posted June 26, 2006 Gary, I did a couple of things on this one. Here is the original so you can see what I started with. Link to comment

kslonaker 0 Posted June 28, 2006 Thanks, Gary. If you understand how layers work, I'll be glad to go into more detail. Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted June 28, 2006 Interesting creation Kim. The background shape echoes the foreground flowers, I like that. I like the clarity of the little "hairs" on the flower stems, really adds detail. The only distraction for me is the edge if the far right flower, it seems to have lost a firm edge. It probably wouldn't have even caught my eye, by all the other edges seem so clear & sharp. I love the translucent light, adds real beauty to the shot. Nicely done :) Link to comment

aepelbacher 0 Posted July 3, 2006 Oh - this would make GREAT notecards!! And I can't believe that the MONK was the backdrop!! I was going to just write that I love how the color in the flowers just glows the way you softened it. Cool!! Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted July 3, 2006 Walter, your notecard, plus a couple of small prints will be in the mail tomorrow. Lou Ann, by using DOF effectively, you can "create" backgrounds. Link to comment
