Beautiful colors and shapes in the rocks. I think they could benefit from some Photoshop enhancement. Also, the water isn't especially interesting and seems to take up too much of the frame. Perhaps crop some of it out. I see potential in this photo with some additional post-processing.

Hey Mel, thanks so much for your comments. I see now that you're right about the water. Do you think that perhaps trying to bring out the reflections in it would be interesting enough? Maybe then it would be okay to keep it in there?

Hi, Daniel,

I did just a bit of Photoshop work to bring out the colors in the rocks and the reflections in the water. What do you think?

There were just two operations here, if you want to experiment. First I added a new Adjustment Layer (you can select either Levels or Curves). Then I clicked Auto to get this bit of change. Close the dialog box and select the background layer in the Layers palette to continue.

The second thing I did was select all the water with the Magic Wand and copy and paste the selection to create a new layer. Right click on the new layer in the Layers palette and select Blending Options. Play with the Blend Modes and Opacity until you find what you like. This version uses Overlay with Opacity set at 73.

The water is *really* green. What's growing in there? Nice photo of a beautiful location.

Mel, thanks so much for the tips. What you did really worked to bring depth to the water. I've yet to try anything further, but will do so when I return home in a couple days.

The color of the water was actually more of a hazy turquoise. My monitor isn't calibrated, but its really close, and when comparing with other shots from the area I realized that this photo had more of a green tint with browns mixed in from the river bottom. I think that is due to the darker reflections and simply the lighting in this particular spot. Okay, too much information... but the idea is I like what you've done but I'm going to try to tweak it a little more to get the water back to what color I think it should be.

By the way, the color of the water is from the heavy silt content...whatever that means...that's just what I was told. Oh, and its absolutely freezing!!
