wingell 0 Posted June 22, 2006 A couple waits patiently for the racing to start at a new harness track in upstate New York. Your comments and critiques are always welcome. Thanks...Bill Link to comment
ivan colman 0 Posted June 22, 2006 Great ! Fantastic ! I love this one. Don't ask me for more constructive comments. I think it is because it makes me think about Edward Hopper paintings. My first 7/7 of this month Link to comment
eyadnalsamman 0 Posted June 22, 2006 I like the way that you made your photo to be more realistic. The floor design, the walls' color and the furniture's shadows also add more beauty to the whole photo. I am not sure but I think that you made a crop to the original photo with this great 16mm lens. Creative photo Bill. Link to comment
wingell 0 Posted June 22, 2006 Thanks, all, for the very kind remarks. I got this shot because I arrived early at the track on opening day--I'd been assigned by a metropolitan NY paper to cover the festivities--and there wasn't much of a crowd yet. I loved the dynamic quality of that mural (the track has a "country fair" theme), and the position of the couple seemed perfect. When the husband (I did talk to the subjects afterwards) took a sip, he made my day. Thanks for the Hopper reference--that was sweet; I did do just the slightest amount of cropping at the sides and top. And I will add that the combination of the Canon 16-35 2.8L lens and the 5D is perfect for this kind of capture. Cheers...Bill Link to comment
panayotis_papadopoulos 0 Posted June 22, 2006 Very unusual and realistic photo. I like the colors as well, very nice composition! Link to comment
jstyles 0 Posted June 23, 2006 Fantastic shot! The vignetting is great - is that postprocessed, or in-situ? You've captured the scene beautifully, and made it and the couple very likeable. Nice work. Link to comment
jerry ting 1 Posted June 23, 2006 Bill, I find the relaxing old couple vs the tensed harness track painting on the bkg quite interesting. Seems like they just want to leave all those excitements behind and enjoy a simple meal togather quitely. Great shot with excellent lighting. I would probably clone off those garbage on the floor though. Link to comment
patricklove 0 Posted June 23, 2006 I love this, an appropriate subject of a great drawing. Link to comment
erwin1 0 Posted June 23, 2006 There are different aspects which make this shot stand out. Besides the fact that technically not much can be bettered, I love the contrast between the dynamic background and the easy attitude of the persons in the foreground. But what attracts me most is the, despite the contrast (or perhaps thanks to this contrast), the unity that has been achieved in this scene. The shot itself takes the allures of a painting in itself. Great work ! erwin Link to comment
jfochoa 0 Posted June 25, 2006 Great image! The right leg of the man have the same alignment with the painting... colors are great too! As you said... your lens was the right choice for this pic. Congrats! Link to comment
jimrock 0 Posted June 25, 2006 Good, vivid colors. Nice use of a rather mundane setting (cafeteria, it appears) to create such an excellent shot. If you don't mind using Photoshop to improve an image, I would eliminate the napkin on the floor. Link to comment
robert semnic 0 Posted July 5, 2006 fantastic contrast. The thing that man drinks adds to the funny mood! Link to comment
kentb2 0 Posted July 16, 2006 This is among my favorites of yours. The couple almost seems to be an extension of the painting behind them. They look too appear to be illustrated. Your contrast and balance in color is remarkable. Great shot. Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted September 16, 2006 Recognised the framed work. Very nicely done Bill and the warm tones and wide angle fits it perfectly. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 8, 2006 It's pretty much all been said, but just wanted to add my acclaim to all the others. Great shot. Link to comment
