michaelhills 0 Posted July 7, 2006 Sherry, this is quite simply wonderfully captured. Great subject matter (those toes are perfect!) and framing (I like that you can see the adult's fingernails in the background. To me, what sets this image to a higer level is the prominance of the perfectly manicured thumbnail and the rings - you don't often see that overt 'adultness' in 'baby' shots. I like it. Did you do anything with the image in the digital darkroom? I like the toning - maybe a tad bright for me, but very effective nonetheless. M :) Link to comment
skersell33 0 Posted July 7, 2006 Thank you for you compliments on this photo. You're the first to do so. I believed I upped the contrast a tad, which I'm sure brightened it a bit. That's about it. This photo came out better than I anticipated... as my friend was sitting on the couch with her baby visiting with me. So I grabbed a black towel, thru it under his feet and took this picture. Used some natural light coming from the window and a little bounced, fill-flash. I had my camera set on program at the time, so it auto-selected the DOF, which I think turned out very nice. Again, thank you! Link to comment
skersell33 0 Posted July 10, 2006 I can't resist taking photos of baby parts! +/- Feedback appreciated. Link to comment
ramz1 0 Posted July 10, 2006 Nice clean photo with excellent DOF and contrast. I really like the composition as well. Link to comment
petervannugteren 4 Posted July 11, 2006 Beautiful soft mood. The DOF adds so much here. Great job Sherry. Link to comment
ester 0 Posted July 11, 2006 You see Sherry, you've put your own unique touch on what is a common theme. I works really well and you've created a wonderful photo that any mother or father can connect with. I'm not completely sure about the nail and rings, it kind of disturbs the mood. But i love the lighting, the composition and the gentleness of the hand rocking the babies feet. well done sherry, regards ester Link to comment
michaelhills 0 Posted July 14, 2006 I'll have to (respectfully) disagreed with Ester regarding the prominant inclusion of the adult's nail and rings - I feel it sets it above the standard run-of-the-mill baby feet portrait. Just my honest thoughts and keeping the discussion going... M :) Link to comment
skersell33 0 Posted July 21, 2006 Hello everyone and thank you for your feedback and comments on this photograph! I've been away from p.n for a little while, taking on some new projects and trying to generate business. Since I enjoy photographing children in their candid moments, I findly found my target... mommies (particularly at-home moms) who want fun, creative photographs of their children at an affordable price. My catch phrase - "Capturing a moment of personality for a lifetime of memories." Anyway, I can see both views on the mothers hand and rings. I think most importantly... that it's a reflection of this mom's personality, as she's always been known for her collection of thumb rings. When looking at it, there's no mistaking that it is her babies feet in her hands. I'm off to see what new pics have been posted. Thanks again! Link to comment
sirabalde 0 Posted July 29, 2006 This photo is perfect!!! Light Composition Crop BRAVO!!! I love it! One question only: Why has she got a ring on the thumb? Cheers Christina Link to comment
skersell33 0 Posted July 29, 2006 Thanks so much for the positive comments on this photo. For some reason... here in Southern Californi, it has become quite popular to wear rings anywhere that people don't normally wear them. My friend has always been known for collection of thumb and toe rings. I'm sure her baby boy will ask the same question when he looks at this photo as an adult. As mentioned in my last comment. The great thing about the rings is that there is no mistaking that's her hand with her baby's feet in them. This photo turned out better than I anticipated when I took it! Thanks again. michaelhills 0 Posted July 31, 2006 Personally, I love the rings on the thumb.... grabs my attention straight away and makes me think that here is a woman that is both a mother and her own person. Someone who I would like to photograph, actually. M ;) Link to comment
skersell33 0 Posted August 1, 2006 You're right Michael. This is a mom who works hard to still be herself, but is also very in love with her baby. She is a beautiful lady and her baby boy is now almost four months old. I have taken picures of her and plan to do more in the future. Note... the thumb rings present again! See attached. Thanks again! Link to comment
michaelhills 0 Posted August 10, 2006 Both baby and mother are beautiful indeed, Sherry. It is great to see that you are capturing something of her 'soul' in your imagery - never an easy thing to do. Wish they lived in Brisbane... hehe M ;) Link to comment
skersell33 0 Posted August 10, 2006 sorry Micheal... they are all mine. :-) They are certainly "all-natural" beauties! Link to comment
