thiszme 0 Posted June 22, 2006 This is an edit of a previous photo I posted on PN. With some advice from a couple of other PN members I worked on the photo a little. I cropped the original and converted to sepia in Nikon Editor then added a soft grain texture in PS. So is this any better? The original is still in my abstract file if you want to compare the two. Thanks and any advice or comments are always welcome. Jeffery Link to comment
chpl 0 Posted June 22, 2006 Nice sepia tone. There always a little tricky on the color.Good color saturation. Link to comment
julioamendoza 0 Posted June 22, 2006 The sepia idea made it look great. Now the image made me think different about the boots. As for the title.... probably something related to lonelyness, help, time wears you out, ageing, etc. Good luck! Link to comment
cedric lacombe 0 Posted June 22, 2006 As someone who posted on the original version of this picture, I think this is way better. I think I like sepia better than black and white for this subject, good decision. Anyways glad i could help! Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted June 22, 2006 Jeffery, I think you did very good work on your second effort of this image. The sepia tone is wonderful and the cropping eliminated the distractions. In your original image it appears that there is some dampness to the concrete surrounding the shoes. So my original idea for a title was "Ridden hard, put to bed wet". But I like short titles where possible and I'm not adverse to splitting the title between the image and the first line of the description. Like this: Ridden Hard......Put to bed wet. However, these boots appear to be ridden hard and then discarded. So it might be more appropriate to use a title that exemplifies the word "discarded". I'll continue pondering this idea and let you know if I come up with anything. In the meantime, I'll give you a 6/6 on this version. You did good! Link to comment
aeaster 0 Posted June 22, 2006 As someone who works exclusively with traditional B&W film, I will admit an appreciation of a fine sepia print. You have done very well here. Usually it seems that most digital sepias are way too overdone and over-saturated. Here you used a lighter hand than most and the results are far superior because of it. Link to comment
thiszme 0 Posted June 22, 2006 Thanks to everyone. I am much more pleased with the shot myself. I came to PN to learn from other photographers and your advice and comments have really helped a lot. Thanks again. Jeffery Link to comment
thiszme 0 Posted June 22, 2006 Hey Cedric. Yeah I too tried the BW like you showed me and then decided to just try the Sepia. It just looked better in the Sepia for some reason. But thanks for the advice it really changed the shot. Jeffery Link to comment
beepy 0 Posted June 26, 2007 The closer shot (crop) works really well with this image. Much stronger composition. The toning gives it an aged feel that works well with the condition of the boots. Link to comment
