Aaron, love the title and couldn't agree more. I know that I swim against the tide when I admit to really liking shots like this but you have done an excellent job with the background and DOF. It's a beauty.

Yes, flowers are not popular as a subject... but they are importent part of nature, and that is a very beautiful rendition, and the perfect title.

Thank you both for stopping by. I think this one might have appeared a bit too simple and slipped under the radar.

cheers,

Aaron, it's the simplicity of this image that makes it a winner. There are no tricks, just a very well exposed image of an amazingly pristine bloom. The cool tones of the bloom against the warmer green background is unique and quite nice too!

That jeweled center is really stunning Aaron. This is really a very special image. The subtle bokeh adds to this as well. Perfect indeed...

The contrast and colour make the petals (and the rest of the flower) jump right off the page.

Lovely photo.

Beautiful shapes and textures.

A comment to be taken in good humour: my only concern about this photo is where you write "What I think separates most of my floral shots from the mass of doc-type snaps is the focus on form and detail and of course good lighting".

It's the type of comment I might write about your work, or would like to read from somebody else, but from the photographer himself? ;-)

Thanks Bob!

Hugo thank you! It was a terribly generic comment written in haste, and it doesn't really pin down anything at all other than the foundation a good image in any genre! I wrote it after being thoroughly uninspired going through the flower gallery. This is going to sound corny, but it's the unique character of each flower that I look for and try to convey as fully as possible, much like in portraiture.

Thanks for keeping me on my toes.
