pradeep1 0 Posted June 13, 2006 When we went to Kodaikanal for a holiday, couple of weeks back, it was pretty rainy and was hardly conducive for landscape shots. When we were going to a temple, on our way, we happen to see this amazing view of the Palani hills from Kodaikanal. I am not much of a landscape person, and I was pretty pleased with this effort. This shot was taken handheld at f22, thanks to the IS feature of the 17-85 IS lens. Welcome your constructive criticism. Thanks. Link to comment

carsten_ranke 0 Posted June 13, 2006 Breathtaking scenery, superb contrast and colors, almost like a painting. Curious to know why f22 - I would never have the heart to do that with a digital, theoretically you should have trouble from diffraction, less acutance. However, the detail even in the large version is impeccable. Theory and practice... Link to comment
pradeep1 0 Posted June 14, 2006 Very kind words there. Well, I would have shot it at f11, but when i saw how the scene was never ending, i wanted to get as much DOF as possible. I am not good with landscapes, but this particular shot is by far my best :). Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted June 14, 2006 Agree that this is excellent. If you throw in your data into a DOF calculator you see a DOF from 0.8 m to infinity for f:11 and 2 meters @17 mm focal length for the 20D, the APS-sized sensor allows for more DOF than a fullsize like 5D (a real advntage of the 20D over the fullsizers here) Link to comment
pradeep1 0 Posted June 16, 2006 Thanks Carsten, i did not know that. will check a DOF calculator and how to use it. Link to comment
