Absolutely fantastic! How do you know exactly where that turning spot is? Or is that an astronomy secret?

Thanks for your comments. The "trick" to this is finding Polaris and carefully centering it in your image. Any slight deviation from the center will move the arcs at a slight angle from the middle of the frame. Using a wide-angle lens such as this makes it even more difficult as even *seeing* Polaris is quite difficult given its magnitude (star brightness). I believe this is about a 25-minute exposure under extremely dark skies far removed from light pollution. I remember the night fondly, it was one of the stillest, clearest skies I'd ever seen in my life, something so few of us have had the awesome pleasure of experiencing. :) -David

Polaris? North Star? Oh how lucky you from the northern hemisphere are. We from the southern hemisphere have no such star to guide us... Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Unfortunately for southern hemisphere sky-watchers, there is no polar star that is close to the celestial pole. However, you can locate Sigma Octantis and go from there as that is fairly close to the south celestial pole. -David :)

Nice image. I would have probably worked a little bit at composition, but still a nice image. I don't like to put Polaris dead center :)

Thank you so much for your kind words. It's really a nice feeling when so many appreciate shots like this. The heavens are filled with so many wonders and I find it so calming to just look up at the stars. I'm an avid amateur astronomer and to share this with others is always a pleasure. I'm so glad you all liked it. -David
