When I took this photograph it was almost dark already. The image is showing more than the human eye can see under such lighting conditions. Therefore the photograph could be regarded as overexposed although it still looks quite dark.

Anyway, what I was interested in was an image created by natural light, without any flash.

I wonder if we would see it that way, if our eyes would be more light-sensitive.

Thanks for all the kind comments and ratings on this photograph. In just one day over 60 ratings is very encouraging. If I have another opportunity to take photo in a similar situation I will consider all the feedback I am receiving here.

I love it ! And it is tough for me to believe that this image has an average rating of 6 + at this point, whereas a 9 and a 10 is what you get from me... Shall I take the opportunity to plead for darkness ? Well, let's make it brief: there's nothing wrong about evenings and nights... Darkness is where enigmas hide, it is where things get their deapest soul... And I believe your picture does just that: enhancing the soul of the place... Any brighter would be, in my opinion, just weaker...

Besides this, I understand you live now in China, and you have been to Malaysia... Is that right ?

Keep in touch... I might have a plan for you to come back to Malaysia (where I now live) at no cost at all... Interested ?...

Yes, Juergan, this is a beautiful shot--the muted colors gracefully foreshadow evening's elegaic pall. Also, while the image is dark, I don't understand the ratings. Should be higher.

Gorgeous image. I think the exposure is just right. You can sense that this is the last bit of light for the day...there is a wonderful glow and an anticipation of the complete darkness that is soon to take over.

Love the photo - it's reminiscent of the background to a Dali painting .... almost reminds me of his Swans, even though the colours are totally different ...... and the other thing it brings to mind is the landscape created by Tolkien in the Lord of the Rings (I've not seen the film yet, so you can all tell me if my imagination differs to the film-makers'). All told, a wonderful photograph.

I don't understand the total average ratings either. Not your everyday shot-this is dreamlike. The jagged edges of the rock against the sky and the softness of the water against the rocks and shore below add to this wonderful composition, not to mention the overal tone. That blue in the water is beautiful.

From someone who enjoys taking night photography and late evening shots, I'd say your exposure was dead on-considering you probably rely on your own guess-I know I do.
