aepelbacher 0 Posted May 31, 2006 Um ... Colin, could you tell us what Whitehall Court IS? I looked up the name of this building in one of my London Eye 360 books ... but I haven't been able to find much information about the building itself ... not even on Wikipedia. Anyway - this is yet another shot taken from the Eye. I love the shots I was able to get without reflections. I'm also happy with the clarity in this shot, as well as the colors in the trees and other items in the foreground. What are your thoughts? Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted May 31, 2006 If anyone can tell me more about what Whitehall Court is, I'd be grateful! :-) Any comments or ratings are also appreciated! Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 64 Posted May 31, 2006 As much as I like this, Lou Ann, my eye keeps seeking closure on the right side, and I was wondering how it would be cropped and then reposted at a larger size. (That is, I can crop it but I can't resize it back up to fill the available space to see how it would look.) Great to see this latest work. --Lannie Link to comment
dens 4 Posted June 7, 2006 This is essentially an apartment block which includes the 280-room Royal Horseguards Hotel, part of the Thistle Hotel chain. The architects were Archer and Green 1885 to 1893. Whitehall Court is on Crown Land and, until the 1880s, it lay at the heart of a venerable muddle of properties between Whitehall, Scotland Yard and the Thames. The present building is in the French Renaissance style. Among its more famous residents were Charlotte and Bernard Shaw and formaly SIS (MI6) the UK's version of the CIA. Its nice inside too but certainly not cheap. http://www.knightfrank.co.uk/WS1020890 ?3,250,000 for a 79 Year lease!!! Link to comment
dens 4 Posted June 7, 2006 Oh and by the way nice photo, where did you shot this from? Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted June 8, 2006 ...it lay at the heart of a venerable muddle of properties... Denis, you crack me up!! THANK YOU for your very British description of what Whitehall Court is!! I'm at a conference this week, and although it's a computer course, I haven't had a lot of time to surf like I usually do, so I haven't been around much to check comments, etc. ANYWAY ... this photo was taken from the London Eye, as were several others in this folder. It was a FABULOUS ride, if you haven't done it!! Warm regards! Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 64 Posted June 8, 2006 The London Eye goes that high? Good grief! From climbing so much in the mountains, I can tell you (even from a photo) that that would be several hundred feet. Incredible! One thing I like about this shot, Lou Ann, is that you show the massive extent of this building--and it keeps on going. I finally noticed some of your other comments on my photos. Sorry for not noticing earlier. --Lannie Link to comment

sarahunderhill 1 Posted June 9, 2006 Very nice. I really like all the green in front. You make London look good. All I remember is grey.... Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted June 17, 2006 I was going to say I had no idea what Whitehall Court was used for - didn't even know its name. Denis to the rescue though! Glad to hear I'm not the only one on a computer course - I like to know others are suffering too :-). However I'm finished all that for now (4 courses altogether - aargh!) so should be around on PN more with a bit of luck and if successful in throwing Matt of the computer occasionally....
