With the start of hurricane season days away...a reminder of the

destruction they cause. Almost ten months since Katrina, small

shrimping community of Bayou La Batre Alabama is still struggling to

recover. This photo was taken May 27, 2006, and shows two shrimp

boats grounded from the storm surge of Katrina last year. Thanks for

looking and any comments are appreciated.

Thanks Sheryl...I had noticed that also, but did not have any other angle to achieve a shot without the posts, as there are processing plants there. I appreciate the constructive criticism. Regards...LJ

What neat shrimp boats! Are they still there or have they repaired them and put them back on the water? I agree somewhat about the posts BUT, at the same time I think it places the boats near the water and are not a big distraction to me. Furthermore, the real uniqueness and power of this picture comes from your caption--this definitely tells a story and shows the power of a storm without even showing a single drop of rain or gust of wind. For that reason alone, I like this shot but I also like the colors and the shrimp boats! Great job!

Thanks Tyler for the comment, it is greatly appreciated...To answer your question, they were finally removed and placed in dry dock for repair two weeks ago. I have another picture, not posted here, of the very last boat to be removed from shore, (it was actually about a mile inward from the shore), and it was removed on Oct 2, 06, over one year after the storm. Bayou La Batre is slowly recovering, and will be much improved. Thanks Tyler for taking a moment to comment, and also for showing interest in "my backyard".

Regards..LJ

this one is really something interesting. i would just change the angle to avoid wooden sticks, which will contribute to the picture power.

thanks for your rating.

I missed seeing this when it was originally posted. Katrina was bad for almost everyone in that area but it created lots to see for the photographer. Nice shot!
