What do you think about the spacing around his face? He was looking

up at a plane, so I felt it was important to leave room in the

direction he was looking. Comments?

Hi Kim. This is a very good shot. I agree with your choice of placement...he needs to be looking into more area than is behind him. The red and green work nicely together. Your DOF is perfect. Your lighting is so nice and even; the focus is just soft enough without being overdone and I also like your skin tones. It is so hard for me to get the skin tones right but you did a nice job.

Gary, here's a tip to get this look - make a layer and use Gaussian blur set on about 40 (yes, VERY blurry). In the layers mode, select soft light. Lock the layer and "paint" back some of the detail in the eyes and anywhere that looks too soft (set paintbrush on about 35% or so).

Thanks, Leslie. We had a good trip, although it's a LONG drive from Texas to Canada (3,000 miles one way)!! It's the only way to bring lots of stuff for the family and take pictures, though. I got to meet one of our fellow photo-netters, too (Mark Boyer and his wife).

Thank you Kim. I copied and printed your advice. I can't wait to see how it turns out. Thank you for taking the time to teach. Gary

Cool to be able to get together with other PNers! Bet you guys had fun. Looking forward to more pix from the trip. BTW, I'll be posting shots from a car show in the next couple of days and would love for you to look at them if you get a chance. Thx!
