Just a simple portrait.

I can't believe I get to be the first to comment on this photograph! I must live right or something.

First, I'll respectfully disagree with you about this being a "simple portrait," okay? This image speaks volumes, and it can be saying several different things.

The main thing I really like about this one, David, other than it being in b&W and having a really good tonal range, is that it's real. You've apparently made no attempt at all to glamourize this young lady, and that's a major point with me.

My first impression of the image is that she's just waking up after an extremely heavy night of partying. The mussy hair, the half-mast eyes, and the sort of slack mouth suggest there may have been some serious decadence going on in the wee hours. And by the way, my descriptions are in no way a reflection on the young lady...none whatsoever.

Or...she simply could be waking up, only to find you poking a camera in her face again, and she's about to tell you to bugger off.

Whatever...I love this photograph! Very well done.

Jim, I was a little surprised myself that no one commented on this. I didn't expect there to be many or any that were meaningful but I did expect something. Like I say, I am never a good judge of my own pictures. I thought 'Focal Points' would attract a few comments and maybe a few ratings. Boy was I surprised.

I hear what you say about this image. In truth the things you see are not there. The young lady was very complex. This was taken in the middle of the afternoon. As far as I know, she hadn't been partying the night before.

You are right about it being natural though. That really is the way I like to photograph people. Usually the girls themself have a different idea. Thankfully this one didn't.
