salvatore.mele 1 Posted May 14, 2006 Just back from the french alps where we went playing in the ice... Iliked a lot this shot and would like to ready your opinion.I've been considering flipping it so that a left->right flow wouldgive the feeling she is looking ahead, but could not bring me to dothis to the well known landmarks.Your comment and criticism are much appreciated!P.S.Actually, I really think you should see this Larger Link to comment
Please, folks, don't hit me. My english is very poor. Link to comment
delp 0 Posted May 16, 2006 Yes, good spot. "The feeling at the summit" ? From this point, could you see Italy, now that it is not under permanent bribery anymore ? Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted May 17, 2006 Salvatore, The red ..is there. I would have changed the name to "On the edge...." as your explanation before is telling that the edge is always present while climbing, and she looks exactly that. Composition is well done as the snow she is standing on is forming the same line ( on the left) with the slops on the right and ballance as a sort of triangl by the other side but especially by the clouds...( it is two upside down triangles ...) I would have liked a bit less intensity of the sky, which to my taste are too dark . The texture of the snow hill is accentuated and adds a lot to the image. ( btw, I have wrote you on your last comment and uploaded your suggestion, Please look and comment again....Thanks ) Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted May 27, 2006 At the first glance, a simple souvenir shot from mountain hiking... But of course you didnt chose this camera point and crop by chance (right ?). INgenious how clouds, snow covered hill, mountain parts form triangular patterns, all elements pointing towards her, pointing towards the sky. Placed slightly eccentric, kind of Golden section. Excellent work Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted June 9, 2006 Salvatore, sorry I've been a bit absent lately. There's simply not enough hours in the day. I've visited this photo a few times as I quickly checked in to see what you've been up to. Finally, I'm ready to make a few comments. Technically, you've made some terrific compositional choices. All the elements are pointing to the figure in red (now an official Mele trademark). The two clouds so perfectly balance the two highlighted ridges of snow on the right. Theres a line created by the dark side and light side of the ridge she's standing on that leads the viewer's eye into the frame directly to the climber. Now, the more important features of this photo. In looking at this, I'm being told two stories. Initially, I'm getting the sense that your lady in red is trying to decide. Should I keep moving forward or is this far enough? Or, perhaps she's stopping to take in an amazing view, hidden from my (the viewer's eye). It's as if only someone whose made the climbing effort is worthy of experiencing the view. Then.....I find myself seeing this from the perspective of the photographer or climber that's behind. There's a sense of anticipation. Just a little further and I can see it too. Or....wondering....has she stopped because the trail has ended, no more safe footing, the end of the road? Thanks for the late night trip to the Alps from my office chair in balmy Florida! Link to comment
