Like the sun, but house is too dark. Good effort though.

Sadly yes, you have the situation that the sun is still too high in the sky for you to do what you want, which is to shoot towards the light and still retain some foreground detail. I like the viewpoint, and at the right time, I think a good picture would be possible. No question that the "liquid gold" effect of the light in the canal is worth trying for.
