Desolation Tree #2

Digital Infrared. Comments appreaciated.

I think that the center is off to the right side a bit too far. The presence of trees on the right, and nothing to balance them on the left makes me want to turn to the right to center up the tree and see what lies in that direction. I think that either a closer shot of the tree, if that is your main subject, or just to rotate to the right a bit would strengthen this shot. Still, you've got nice tonal values throughout the entire image.

i like your tree. looks like a tree from some fable or old story.

There are some great elements here for a very nice composition. I agree with Randall....I find myself wanting to move to the right and then recompose so that the rock and solitary tree are to the left of the midline. I'd also like to get the solitary tree on the left edge of the bright portion of the clouds.

Really really beautiful, it looks almost like a painting.. amazing!

Interesting comments about the composition. I find myself liking the diagonal created by the slope of the rock and the angle of the tree which appear to divide the photograph between the land and the sky. There is also a visual tension between the dark clouds in the upper left corner and the tree and rock in the lower right corner. It feels sufficiently balanced to me and has a very nice near far composition in the bottom half of the frame.

 

I don't see anything that would seriously make me consider any changes. Of course there are metaphors to be found here as well and without getting too silly about it I will just say that I like the way the tree appears to defy the elements with its roots planted firmly in the rock. Good stuff!
