Guest Guest Posted May 4, 2006 I like the composition because of the humor embedded in it: pretty comical seeing a head peeping at you from someone else's behind. :) And, I took the liberty of coaxing some green and yellow to return thru PS/CS2. Here's my interpretation. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted May 5, 2006 Arthur, The humour in it is the reason I took it. Your rendition with the added greens and yellow is more like the original slide. I always seem to rush these to screen. Perhaps it's the learning curve for my new scanner. Thanks for pointing the way. Best, LM. Link to comment
vincetylor 0 Posted May 5, 2006 I see this as more of a "nice moment" kind of capture Len, than as a humorous one. And the title actually leads me that way as well. I know it would change the image somewhat, but I would possibly like this even better if you had the mother's head in the scene. I am not so sure I like where she was cut off... though I am also not so sure how I would crop to improve this. hmmm I will say having some of her mane was a good idea; gives that motherly feel here. Arthur's rendition is an improvement. Guess it's actually a good reminder for all of us to take our time in post process work. Have a good one. Aloha! Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted May 6, 2006 Vincent, Thanks for your input. Always appreciated. Yes, this was indeed a bit of a tender moment. I purposely left the mother's head out of the shot as I didn't want her to detract from the colt. The only other crop I've considered is one just to the right of the colt's legs visible under Mom's tummy. There would still be enough Mom to accurately give context to the colt. Arthur's modifications just prove that I've still room for improvement in the presentation department. Best, LM. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted May 7, 2006 Len, I like that little colt"hiding" behind his mom, but I think as well that the mom part takes too much of the frame, your thought of cropping part of the mom was IMO a good one, I tryed it and it works, as it brings closer the little one and leaves enough part of mom. I squared it as well. I upload it to show you what I mean, what do you think? Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted May 7, 2006 Pnina, Thanks for your suggestions. That crop is exactly what I meant and I prefer it to my original. If I ever decide to print this one I'll use your crop. (Sorry Vincent, its not often I disagree with your advice but this time I have to side with Pnina). Best, LM. Link to comment
vincetylor 0 Posted May 7, 2006 "I have to side with Pninna" What??...(heh) That might be easy to do since we still have no image showing the mother's head to compare... though admittedly it would be an entirely different image altogether. "I am not so sure I like where she was cut off... though I am also not so sure how I would crop to improve this. hmmm..." VKT I actually felt that some other cropping might work too; jut wasn't sure what. Now we know, and I too like this one as well. I think this crop works because the colt's legs along with the square crop, give the image greater balance now than before. It would probably also work if you left the right side (with the mane) and simply cropped some of the empty space on the left. However, by removing both the mane and the mother's front leg with a rightside crop, the image is now less busy, has less distractions and offers the viewer a very simple yet quite powerful result. Nice idea here LM, with an "assist" (is NBA playoff time by the way) going to Pnina as well! Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted May 23, 2006 Couldn't resist a few shots of this newborn & it's mother. I do prefer the suggested square crop minimizing the amount of the mother shown. Would like to hear your views\comments. Best, LM. Link to comment
