Don, the aesthetics of this image are beautiful, and the idea is also very innovative and fresh.

But the waves crashing into the rocks make it look like a very busy picture. The spray of the water makes it a bit stressfull to follow the flow of the image.

Just my opinion.

Excellent lighting. I sort of agree with Ashutosh. If there would have just been the water breaking into the rock, it would have been a nice contrast between it and the calm looking ocean, but the water on the far left is distracting.

you have a wonderfull composition here, great oranges in the sky contrasts well with the dramtic rocks and surf.

Part of me agrees with Ashutosh...it does take away from the "peacefulness" of the whole thing (I usually go in for the blurry dreamy look more on sea scapes), but part of me also feels that it is also what firmly makes this shot unique. I seriously don't think I've seen anything similar (probably due to it being difficult to get so fast of a shutter speed under these conditions). Anyway, just my 2 cents. Gorgeous shot in either case (did you take more?)

Thanks for all the helpful comments! I really appreciate your thoughtful opinions - they help me to be a better photographer. Jeff - To answer your question - yes I took many compositions including several of this particular angle trying to time the wave splashing. That's the beauty of shooting digital. I feel perfectly free to fire away with no concern for film and processing costs.
