A better exposure?

I like the setting you were able to capture in this picture. I see these a lot while hiking in Colorado but only up high in the rocks so my pics of them aren't so colorful.

Where was this pic taken? Do you think the pinkish coloration of his head comes from digging? Good pic overall.

This was taken around Maroon Bells, CO so everything seems to take on that maroonish tone - just like the rock he's on. Thanks, Dave

I took a look at your Maroon Bell picture. The classic shot. I've been there several times myself and never get tired of that view. While the Marron Bells definitely have a red tint to them, I think your picture has a bit of unnatural maroon cast. Have you checked the color calibration of your setup?

Both pictures were taken with on the same roll of Fugi Velvia several years ago. I scanned the slides with my Nikon CoolScan 5000ED. The skew must be with the roll but I really don't use the camera or lens anylonger since going to digital. I return next month and will take many shots with my D200, it will be a good comparison. One last thought, why is it called Maroon Bells? They must have named it "Maroon" for some reason.
