amalsircar 2 Posted April 29, 2006 What's the name of this species,Kim? Never seen before. Very good composition and high-key effect. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted April 29, 2006 It's a Frigate, in the Albatros family, apparently. You normally only see them flying high in the sky or up on a post and they are rather rare in this area. Interesting birds. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 29, 2006 Kim, How lucky to see one perched. I like your b&w treatment here. Link to comment
richard hans 0 Posted April 29, 2006 Excellent capture, fantastic job, very tasteful, Kim!!! Best regards. Link to comment
markboyer 0 Posted April 29, 2006 I like the B&W, too. The background feels a little harsh, which I think suits the bird and the inherent drama of the shot. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted April 29, 2006 I was a little disappointed the way these shots turned out - the original had a line of blue right at her head level and water for 2/3 of the shot, so it was very blah. I liked it much better when I got rid of the background and changed it to quadtones. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted April 29, 2006 I like your treatment of this one, Kim. It has your fingerprints all over it. :-) I wonder what he's looking at.... Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted April 29, 2006 Rare to see these sitting on a post and they are not common in this area. Comments? Link to comment
birteragland 1 Posted April 29, 2006 Very nice shot Kim, comp is excellent as is the whole shot. Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted April 30, 2006 Extraordinary b&w photograph. Caught my attention immediatley. Link to comment
snakecharmer 0 Posted April 30, 2006 I really like this one for the absence of a background (which would only compete with the subject in this case) and for the contrast between harshness and softness. Link to comment
jasonwilliamsphotography 0 Posted April 30, 2006 Awesome shot, I love the composition and contrast! Link to comment
kleintje 0 Posted April 30, 2006 Great shot, Kim! With the background gone, he looks a bit lost as if he himself is not really sure what he's doing there (especially as he's looking a bit ragged). Link to comment
julio_segura_carmona1 4 Posted April 30, 2006 Excelente composicion, luz, B/W.y un bello encuadre, un cordial saludo Kim. Link to comment
bryan olesen 0 Posted April 30, 2006 Strange lookin' critter, eh? I think they have quite a wingspan - unusual to see it scrunched up like this. Nice comp and treatment. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted April 30, 2006 I believe they have a 90" wing span, which is why they do not land on the ground or water, Bryan. I had never heard of this bird until we saw one last week. Thanks to everyone taking the time to make a comment. Link to comment
ljk 0 Posted May 1, 2006 He looks a little worse for wear....and it brings a smile to my face. Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted May 2, 2006 Nice compositional choice. I, also like the B&W, hi-key treatment. He looks very lonely :) And as Linda says, a little worse for the wear ! Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted May 2, 2006 Very interesting motif, and a well composed shot. I like your idea with the background ! Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted May 2, 2006 Thanks, Linda, Jayme and Carsten. A very weird bird, but interesting to view. Link to comment
donnaalbers 0 Posted May 4, 2006 I think this guy is just too cute. . . I like the fluffy feathers and the B&W treatment. . .is he/she a juvenile?. . . how big are these birds? . . . Link to comment
