Guest Guest Posted April 23, 2006 Lovely place to photograph, especially in the golden hour like this. I'm not sure about this choice of framing, but the blue certainly contrasts with the red. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 23, 2006 Beautifully done. An original perspective and the lighting and colours are great. The large sky also fits well here. Regards, Christoph Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 23, 2006 On closer inspection of the front rock, the colours are posterized and blown - which looks like a saturation boost as John says. There's also a think halo where the rocks and horizon meet the sky. Link to comment
yexie 0 Posted April 23, 2006 John and Ben, here is the original file (unedited, except it was cropped) for discussion purpose only. It was a spectacular sunset and the color was very rich. This photo was shot with Canon 5D in Landscrape Picture Style mode and Auto White Balance. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 23, 2006 Thanks for clearing that up, must have been one hell of an evening. The halo must be jpeg artifacts - I'd assumed it was combined shots or combined layer masks. Link to comment
agustin.david 0 Posted April 23, 2006 I love it. Nice compo. I think the red saturation is the normal problem with the 5D in the Landscape program... very well with green and blue but... really saturated in red. Anyway, the shot is expectacular. Congratulations. Regards. Agus Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 23, 2006 I always shoot RAW, no parameters to worry about in camera then. Link to comment
spiritwarrior 0 Posted April 24, 2006 Excellent photo with great color saturation. Nicely composed. Makes me remember all those John Ford movies with John Wayne. Loved the photography in "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon" coming across the plains with the thunderstorm right on top of them. Truly a wonderful shot. Your picture does it justice. Nice work and thanks for sharing it with us. Link to comment
tom l 0 Posted April 24, 2006 Excellent. The tall red rock in the back looks almost 3d. Great exposure. Link to comment

yexie 0 Posted April 25, 2006 Thanks everyone for your positive comments. I was lucky enought to capture the spectacular sunset. The sunrise next morning was non-existent. Link to comment
sarah_pasha 0 Posted April 25, 2006 Stunning photo. Light and colors are so good. Great job. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 25, 2006 What a fantastic sunset. The super rich redness of the rocks contrast well with the clouds and the shadows are in the right places. Well done in getting this shot! Cheers! Link to comment
sjmurray 33,520 Posted April 25, 2006 Yes, beautiful shot and scene! I agree with Ben about shooting in RAW mode. You can control the white balance before converting to tiff, and I recommend no sharpening at all until you reach final print size or web size. That way you minimize artifacts, especially if you avoid using the jpg format (until its the final version). Link to comment
elisabetta moschetto 0 Posted May 21, 2006 I love the Monument Valley and I love your "supernatural" photo. Congrats Eli Link to comment
