mark_tso 0 Posted April 21, 2006 Suddenly, I find myself tired of unadequate ratings... I came here for interactions not for arithmetics. It seems to me like "WoW! Just Great!" reactions I used to write as most of us are useless, althoght they a pretty effective for my Ego they gives me a very limited space for improving. So, I'm looking for interaction, for critique, for advise.... May be there is someone here that thinks similar? Link to comment
florainer 0 Posted April 21, 2006 Hi Mark, i do! Especially when it comes to concert shots, the conservativeness of pn becomes obvious. I mean your shots are all great, and it would be very helpfull, if You told us, which equipment you use. I hardly ever see concert shots with this DOF. concerning this shot: the left half is a bit to dark in my eyes, but that is probably my screen; i can hardly see any details of his face. But his hair seems to be sharp as hell, which makes me think, that his face is so too. the lights are fantastic, and compowise its good too; to put only this small bass part in here works well for me. best regards, and please tell us, which lens you use. mark_tso 0 Posted April 21, 2006 Hi! First of all, I'm happy to see people that came here for watching, thinking, analyzing and finally WRITING DOWN their suggestions! Thank You, Florian! Now, generally, it's pretty easy to describe my lens...most of the concert shots are made with eather canon f1.8 50mm fixfocal, eather with canon 17-35 L f2.8....mostly i work at the small venues and clubs so i don't need more (don't forget the crop factor of 300D)... The Opeth session was shot partially with my friend's (Boris aka Kino-www.photo.net/photos/Kino) lens canon f3.5 70-200 L and partially with my canon 75-300 4-5.6f (hate this ones in the concert shooting - they are too dark)...isn't it sounds like canon ads? :))) Now regarding this particular image...first of all if your monitor is even a little bit darker ten mine - it is absolutely legitimate that you can't see the details of his face - it's pretty dark even on my screen - but i saticfied, it's enought for me...i DO NOT want it to look as a portrait. What i wanted to catch here is..."some special condition in the air - something emotional". You know, when you stand inside the crowd in sudenly you percept some kind of energy, some mixture of an emotional and sensory impuse..that called - LIVE MUSIC ON STAGE.... Link to comment
perole 0 Posted April 22, 2006 I see what you have wanted to achieve here, but I think it would have been even more effective if I had seen either more of the guitar or no guitar head at all. I also think that the light to the left is good, but I am not so sure about the red light above the guitar head, it takes too much of the attention for me. His face is absolutely not too dark imo. keimae 0 Posted April 22, 2006 Hi Mark, If only people would give their suggestions.... I agree with Per (is it Per or Per Ole?), that the red light keeps my attention. In saying that, I like the facial expression but there's too little of him in the frame. Keith Link to comment
neil_lupin 0 Posted April 27, 2006 okay, its different Mark, but it doesn't quite work. The lights are the focal point - for a silhouette like this to have worked you needed a much lower angle and more of the guitar and guitarist in. Keep plugging though. mark_tso 0 Posted April 27, 2006 Ok...Thank you! I liked you comment, Nail. The most definitive and important word for me in it was - "DIFFERENT". This is exactly what i'm looking for...I'm pretty sure it willl take me some time to bring it to some highly artistic level - but I'll try! :) About the angle and the composition - there is a lot possibilities to shot one single scene. Different angle, different framing, different lights - it all can change the image...but at the moment of making this shot - i did all the best i could - believe me. THank You once again, Mark.
