A large monkey with a long snout, a heavy brow, and close-set eyes. Rough fur ranges from gray to brown to yellow-brown. Some have thick fur around head and neck forming a "mane." Female has swollen red to pink rear end.

These monkeys travel in large, energetic troops with a number of adult males, as well as females and young. Males are up to twice the size of females, powerfully built, and with long, sharp fangs. Baboons spend the day on the ground looking for food and the night sleeping in trees or on cliffs. Several Hamadryas Baboon troops sometimes come together at night at a safe cliff, with as many as 750 individuals sharing the sleeping area.

In this image, I emphasize on the head portion, therefore darken its surrounding & body. I wonder if the effect is too dark? Your feedback is most appreciated.http://c14.statcounter.com/counter.php?sc_project=1482400&java=0&security=a1fd6ce3&invisible=1

When I see this baboon I remember my dear land: Africa! Impressive this great continent. War takes me out of there. But I keep Africa in my soul. I try (please forgive my english) to describe to you an extraordinary moment that my father (an army officer in that time) lived in the jungle when he sighted a large number of baboons. That group of baboons is a great danger and my father and the others soldiers knows that. But they had machine guns. In the excitement of the moment soldiers don't listen my father orders and begin to shoot the baboons. For consequence the baboons they run away in enormous speed and confusion. There are females with little baboons in that group and in the big confusion one of these young baboons is killed and falls in the ground. The mother continues to run... But there are a moment when the mother stopped and came back next to the son fallen dead in the ground. The other baboons continue in escape. The frightened soldiers stop the fire. The mother baboon she takes in her arms the son dead body and with great dignity she came with no fear next to the soldiers and then she leaves in the soil her dead son. After this she ran away. Nobody understood this.

I like that image and your head portion emphasize. Perhaps she needs more detail in the face and in all the head... perhaps...

Paulo, you have narrate a very touching incident. Animals can be very humane, they also love & protect their offsprings.

This reminds me my grandpa, when he use to sit by the bonefire chewing straws and telling stories, and the kids around him with their eyes wide open listening to the tales. Now days tv and video games occupy children, but nothing brings the charm of bonfire stories.

I totally agree with you. Nowadays children seldom experience the warmth & loving closeness among family, not the simplicity of card games like Happy Family, Snap & many others. They are too busy with school work & activities & their PC games.

Great pose, gaze and gesture. A bit more separation from the background at the left of face would be nice, but that's a detail. Very well done Cherlyn. Regards, Kelvin.

I like the way you have enhanced his head, Cherlyn, I still would have liked a bit more light on the leftside to continue his arm that is holding the ellement he is eating. Nice animal, Pnina

Cherlyn, you did it again. How much time did you spend at that Zoo? I'm assuming the animal isn't free...

Anyway, you got some fantastic lightning. I don't know, maybe you waited for it, maybe you got lucky. However, all the credit in the world goes to you. Amazing light, like a studio portrait.

Also, superb timing, you caught it with a superb expression, looks like he's thinking deeply. Background blurred... all the goodies. 7/6.

Again, I need to say thank you for visiting my work. I continue to feel extremely honored by your ratings and words, they encourage me to go out and shoot more. Shall you have a second, would you look at my last submission, rate and maybe leave a critique if time permits? I got this flower alone in the dark and these drops of light. I would be very happy to know your thoughts by your ratings and maybe critiques.

See you on PN and congrats for another great capture,

--Bogdan
