marcadamus 1 Posted April 15, 2006 The Seascape trasformed through exposure. One of my first images this evening, with the shutter open about a minute. Turning the steel blue ethereal waters to mist. Leading towards the dark, striated clouds on the horizon. For me the image is surreal, mysterious and magical. Almost otherworldly. There is a vertical rendition in my gallery as well, taken later with an even longer exposure and less grad filter. Thanks for any comments. Link to comment
grillot 0 Posted April 15, 2006 unbelievable.. all your work and planning and execution has paid off for you..extremely well done. Link to comment
Jim_Dockery_Photos 2 Posted April 15, 2006 7/6, done often on this site, but I'm still a sucker for these seascapes. Great composition and sky. Link to comment
will king 0 Posted April 15, 2006 Agree with Jim. Seascapes are done often but not to this calibur. Marc, your long exposure timing was impeccable here on this shot. Do you have a formula that your follow for long exposures so you won't over or under expose? I've done some long exposure stuff recently and although some of them came out okay, most of them were really noisy. How do you avoid noise? Link to comment
bhandari1951 0 Posted April 15, 2006 very nice image, good composition, good details and good DOF... Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted April 15, 2006 You avoid noise by using a Canon EOS 5D or 1Ds MK2. I've done 45-minute exposures with little noise issues! Exposure comes from experimenting - no rules here. The light is changing fast. What starts as a metered 1-minute exposure ends as a metered 3-minute exposure. Experience is the key. Digital review helps a lot too! Link to comment
stp 6 Posted April 15, 2006 This is such a powerful, dramatic composition. I really like how the several dark clouds mirror the dark rocks, both of which are set amid the lightness of the sky/water. Outstanding image. Link to comment
jfochoa 0 Posted April 15, 2006 The people who rate this with 3 or 4 is blind. Congrats for this fine image! Link to comment

will king 0 Posted April 15, 2006 Marc, there has been a long discussion on the site feedback thread regarding these retarded ratings. I just made a comment regarding this photo as a perfect example. Read HERE Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 15, 2006 should we even talk about those frustrated anonymous that gave 3/3 or 4/4 for this image?NO!This photo speaks for itself.and comments reflect its beauty.awesome image. 7/6 Link to comment
stp 6 Posted April 15, 2006 Which is why I very seldom even bother with rating an image (except for those that I especially like). I'd rather give (and receive) comments, particularly comments that are meant to be helpful. Link to comment
jesus pizarro1 0 Posted April 15, 2006 Excellent image, amazing light and very good composition. great colors combination. Regards. Link to comment
screeny 0 Posted April 15, 2006 ..the rating systeem and just keep shooting ones like this. Once again it seems so simple but only a few have the stamina and talent to really bring this kind of photo's to another level. I hope to see more in the future! regards, Marc Link to comment
newfocus 0 Posted April 16, 2006 Fantastic shot Marc. It's the direction of the high level cloud and retention of detail in the dark foreground rocks that give it something extra in my opinion. Link to comment
davidroossien 0 Posted April 16, 2006 At first glance the left to right foreground and right to left sky didn't seem to fit. On closer examination there is a playful interaction between the rock on the right and the rest of the scene. It looks like the head of a bear and since it faces left the viewer is free to wander in that direction too. This generates a lot of interesting ideas and feeling. Link to comment
nilesh2 0 Posted April 17, 2006 Absolutely SPLENDID image!! One of the most beautiful landscapes I have ever seen! Very inspiring. Thanks Link to comment
mikestacey 0 Posted April 17, 2006 Superb foreground Marc, impeccable detail. I'm wondering, how large can you print one of these without losing quality? Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted April 17, 2006 I print 20x30 inches all the time and the images look excellent. Link to comment
