Charles_Webster 226 Posted April 14, 2006 I recropped this to eliminate the tree at the suggestion of a friend. It makes a much stronger picture. Thanks Bill Kane. Everything in the frame must contribute to the picture. Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted April 14, 2006 This is a fine abstract. In fact, you could experiment with the crop even more, perhaps cropping most of the sky off and possibly rotating it a bit (would there be any way to align the right side of the lamp with the BR corner, for instance?). In any case, the light here is also very good. This would also work well in B&W. Link to comment
Charles_Webster 226 Posted April 14, 2006 This series was shot before I learned about having one object edge parallel with the frame. I'll try rotating it to bring the lamp post to parallel with the frame. And I agree that the sky could go, almost completely. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 14, 2006 Ah, I wasn't clear. Since this is an abstract, my thought -- just to experiment, not sure how it'd look -- was to rotate CCW so that the lamp would turn into a diagonal, and the base of the lamp would meet up with the corner of the frame. Just a thought, though. BTW you have a good subject here. It'd be worth going back and shooting this building from a variety of angles, in different sorts of light. Link to comment
Charles_Webster 226 Posted April 14, 2006 I don't seem to see in those abstract terms. For me, this was less of an abstract than an attempt to make a bold statement about a bold building. But I plan to visit more often, if it ever stops raining here in the Bay Area. The weather has seriously inhibited my picture taking :-( Thanks for the suggestion, I'll play around with it and see what I can do, especially beginning with the original full-frame version. jay_drew 0 Posted December 6, 2011 Love it! In particular the way the lamp wraps / mimics the side of Bld. to the roof. Never saw tree crop, but suspect it would have been a distraction from the man made forms. A compelling shot that caused me to click on it.Really caught my attention! JDIf this makes it into the critiques, I will drop dead w/ surprise. Whenever I comment on a photo, I immediately get it thrown back in my face w/ several lines of inane gobbledygook that make no sense to me whatsoever, that are trying to tell me why my critique was not posted. The words might as well have been Mesopotamian. I've twice emailed the administrator, asking what the message is trying to tell me, but w/ no response back. Link to comment
